The Army Futures Command hosted Cyber Quest 2024 to test and field innovative technologies that meet the US Army's specific challenges. Here are some of our key takeaways from the event: 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐅𝐮𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐑𝐅 𝐌𝐚𝐧𝐚𝐠𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 AI is essential for managing the radio frequency spectrum, due to traditional RF library detection and classification methods being outdated. AI can not only continuously learn but also detect and classify new modulation types not present in legacy RF libraries, providing confidence scores for its predictions. 𝐀 𝐒𝐦𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐀𝐩𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐚𝐜𝐡 𝐭𝐨 𝐒𝐢𝐠𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐃𝐞𝐭𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 & 𝐂𝐥𝐚𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐟𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 Machine-learning approaches can enable the detection and learning of new signals, including the identification of multiple competing signals on one frequency. Our solution even properly identified jamming signals, allowing our soldiers to apply effective mitigation techniques in real-time. 𝐁𝐮𝐢𝐥𝐭 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐁𝐚𝐭𝐭𝐥𝐞𝐟𝐢𝐞𝐥𝐝 Low compute requirements and low SWaP (Size, Weight, and Power) are critical for operational missions. Throughout the two-week test event, our technology demonstrated 99% uptime, even in temperatures above 100 degrees, while integrated with various SDRs and CPU platforms for flexible deployment configurations. 𝐒𝐨𝐥𝐝𝐢𝐞𝐫-𝐃𝐫𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐧 𝐅𝐞𝐞𝐝𝐛𝐚𝐜𝐤 Feedback shows that accurate and automated signal classification is a must for enhancing soldier situational awareness and helping ensure their safety in modern environments. The ability to rapidly identify, classify, and respond to signals is necessary, and the test exercises completed at Cyber Quest 2024 have set a new benchmark for electronic warfare technology. We were honored to participate with our Spectrum Intelligence and Edge AI solution (GlobalEdge), which we’ve been developing and refining for years. Big thanks to DefenseScoop for the coverage at the US Army's Cyber Quest! And shout-out to Logan D. Selby, PhD, Andrew Fast, Joe Edwards, and Kevin Larrabee for their work on-site to demonstrate DataShapes AI technologies. During the event, we embedded our GlobalEdge AI software onto various hardware sensors for RF spectrum analysis and on-device learning. To test the software from the participating companies, Col. Gary Brock said, “We’re generating unique waveforms and seeing what kind of categorization it gives us. We’re seeing a lot of success out there and the maturity of some of these ML algorithms.” This event showcased how Edge AI can be used to identify, classify, and counter unknown signals on the battlefield with existing sensors. Warfighter's Edge: AI Through the Lens of DoD's Hierarchy of Needs - A 30-Part Series Part 3: Exploring the concept of "decision advantage" and its importance in military strategy. The concept of "decision advantage" is increasingly becoming central to modern military strategy, reflecting the importance of making more informed, faster, and more effective decisions than adversaries. This strategic edge is particularly crucial in the age of information warfare, where data and the ability to act on it swiftly can determine the outcome of conflicts. Decision advantage leverages advanced technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), cyber capabilities, and satellite surveillance, to gather, analyze, and disseminate actionable intelligence at unprecedented speeds. In this context, AI plays a pivotal role by processing vast amounts of data from various sources, identifying patterns, and predicting adversary moves with high accuracy, thereby enhancing situational awareness and operational planning. Cyber capabilities enable the disruption of enemy communications and operations, while satellite surveillance provides real-time global visibility, all contributing to a comprehensive decision-making framework that supports commanders in achieving strategic objectives. Moreover, decision advantage is not only about technological superiority but also about integrating these capabilities within doctrinal, organizational, and operational frameworks to ensure that they effectively support command and decision-making processes. It emphasizes the need for agile and adaptable military structures that can rapidly respond to emerging threats and opportunities, ensuring that forces maintain a competitive edge in increasingly complex and dynamic operational environments. The ability of decision advantage to deter enemies, safeguard national interests, and, when necessary, decisively defeat threats underscores its significance in military strategy. As such, it is a cornerstone of national defense strategies, driving investments in innovation, research, and development to maintain and enhance this critical capability. Want to know more? Happy to share this thought and creation of STEAG spearheaded by the corps of signals - Indian army! Simply laudable ✅💹👌. In a dense emitter environment, the rising use of military grade frequencies in the E n M spectrum, more by hackers, non state actors, fanatics, private terrorist groups, pirates and nations at large, It's important to keep our electronic warfare Armoury ahead of the enemies. The threats posed by weaponisation of the E& M spectrum in the form of interferences, jamming, mass black outs, imposition of controls on the networks by hackers, downing of transportation networks & power networks are simply getting more real than ever before. This national military unit, created with an aim to develop ECCM and anti hacking solutions in collaboration with the industry and academia was always a big necessity! The focus naturally are 6G, AI, ML and the Electronic warfare capacity augmentation! Have a look and may you like to talk more about this! Much needed for emerging nations like ours🇮🇳. #hitech #research #researchanddevelopment #AI #ml #electronicwarfare #india
