I don’t believe in unicorns Don’t tell my daughter, Hazel 🤫 She made me this one I keep this little guy on my desk to remind me that it’s not my job to hunt unicorns But rather to help employers stop believing in them 🙅🏻♀️ Since 2013, the smartest minds in AI and data science have known and publicly talked about the fact that True Data Scientists, for all their supposed experience, skills, and gifts Are unicorns 🦄 I.e. they don’t exist. We’re asking too much There are very, very few (if any) humans who tick all the boxes in most Data Scientist job descriptions But many companies and hiring managers still disregard this when hunting for Data Scientists, Machine Learning Engineers and Data Leaders And they insist on including 10-15 unicorn-calibre items in their job requirements Whilst offering below-market compensation 🤦🏻♀️ And then they wonder, a month into their search, why they aren’t getting anywhere 🤔 So if you are currently hiring Data Scientists or Machine Learning Engineers and feeling frustrated - as we kick off this short week, I encourage you to: ✔️review your job requirements and ask yourself whether you’re being realistic ✔️consider moving some of your requirements to the “nice to have” section (or removing them altogether) ✔️think about splitting this job into 2 - it might be easier to find this blend of skills in two complimentary job roles rather than one ✔️ask yourself (or a head hunter you trust 🙋🏻♀️) whether you’re offering enough compensation for this fancy wish list Make this the week you move on from mythical expectations And step into realistic hiring 🙌🏽 Share your thoughts and experiences on hunting for unicorns below 🦄 #airecruitment #aijobs #recruitmentstories #unicorns Higher - AI recruitment

🚨 Ghost Jobs - A Growing Concern for Job Seekers 🚨 Lately, there's been a rise in a frustrating trend: Ghost Jobs – positions that companies advertise but may not actually intend to fill. As a job seeker, it can feel like you're sending applications into the void, with no real opportunity on the other side. But wait, let’s reconsider for a moment. 🤔 What if your situation changes and you start looking for a job? The one, two, ten, or hundred recruiters you declined will never reach out to you again. So, maybe it's time to accept the fact that some of them will be annoying. This is a concern that always comes up when I am discussing with candidates! A role might have 100, 200, 400+ applications, and candidates tell me there is no point in applying for such roles. That's not true! If the role is live on LinkedIn, especially if it has been recently reposted, it is worth applying to! When a role is filled, we take the job advert down so that our inboxes are not flooded on a daily basis. So while the role is on LinkedIn, we are still looking at CVs. Granted, make sure that your skillset aligns with the requirements of the job posting. But unless the role closes, there's always a chance! #apply #data #ai
