I moved into this place on I-35 in Round Rock, TX on Feb 13, 2010 for 6 months. It was the start of my sales career at age 38 as an Account Executive. This was not the picture I had in my head at where my career would be when I hit this age. My wife and two small kids were in Houston. I went back on weekends to see them until they joined me 6 months later. I went to the office at 7am, made cold calls starting at 7:30am to reach Maintenance and Plant Managers in manufacturing as that is when they were most likely to pick-up. I went back to my small room with a frozen dinner at 7pm, read a sales book (I cannot remember which ones), and then started over the next day. It sucked, but I would not trade it for the world. I learned how to cold call. Try calling into Oil & Gas manufacturing and being bad on the phone. You will know real fast if you need to make change...haha! I learned a ton about sales and how people buy from folks they trust. I screwed up a lot.....and I learned how to admit that to a client and fix it. Do not get tied to where you are in your career at a certain age, what title you have or what you are earning. Focus on how much you are learning and growing professionally. #sales #careerdevelopment #learning #coldcalls
You had love, hustle, and you were eager to learn! What's better than that, Dave?
Great reminder here!
Dave that is Powerful 🤩 Thank you brother as I needed to read that. Bless you brother.
This is such a beautiful and sentimental story to look back on! I just turned 38 and I just started my sales career a year and four months ago! Thanks for sharing Dave Lehmkuhl 🦅
Wow, what an image to reflect on and realize the growth that came from the sacrifice and journey. So many would never attempt to do what you did. I’m sure it’s a big reason you are where you are. Thanks for sharing
