The first step into something new… Last night’s inaugural Whisky Sounds Good event went off very nicely – 15 of 17 tickets sold, which, for a Monday, and my first event, isn’t half bad. Huge thanks to everyone who braved the storm to join us. Always nice to see a few familiar faces along with a some new ones. It’s clear to me that success in anything is rarely achieved by a solo effort. I truly appreciate the support of those that bought tickets and to Tucker, Candice and the Algiers Club* for helping make this event a success. The feedback on the whisky selection was very positive – so much so that a few even suggested I’m undercharging. Don’t worry I won’t be so kind in the future 😆 We even managed a five-star review on the event site (thanks for your support, you know who you are 😁). Now it’s time for more planning, perhaps a cigar with local cigar expert Francisco Arias and a few more days in Dallas. Up next is Houston and Detroit. It's Fieldays week! If you can squeeze in the time, then I encourage you all to visit. I have a deep connection (past Board member, Innovations judge - and more...). But regardless of the past, I get such a kick out visiting each year. First, seeing this years' innovations - the gift that keeps growing (puns always intended). Clever people and technology adding value to NZInc. As a patent attorney it is particularly gratifying to see the commercial version of what you first came across as a raw concept, and as an IP strategist, it is such a pleasure to see how inventors and companies position themselves. Next, I am reminded how we are all interconnected in the Agritech space and how it underpins NZ's economic fabric. We all depend upon and support each other. Last - mussel fritters! As a Sponsor Manager, it is my job to know if a brand has any particular requirements for their participation. San Pellegrino and Acqua Panna are often the sparking and still water sponsors at the Wine & Food Festivals I manage. If their product is served at a dinner, the bottles should be chilled prior to service and a bottle of each is placed on the guest tables. During the dinner the wait staff is expected to pour from the bottles. This is not an outlandish request! This is merely a brand standard and one that makes sense for a water company that is associated with fine dining. Once I am made aware of any special requirements from a sponsor, it is my job to disseminate that info to all applicable event managers to ensure this is upheld.
