This morning I attended a job fair on Kirtland Air Force Base at the Kirtland AFB Military Family Readiness Center sponsored by the Transitional Assistance Program (TAP). It's always valuable to speak with candidates in person. Candidates also have the opportunity to speak to potential employers and learn more about local companies that may hire them. When people leave the military, it may seem very disorienting for them. These types of job fairs open their eyes and opportunities for work outside the military (transferrable skills and security clearances). Job fairs are great venues for job seekers and employers alike. A few tips for job seekers at job fairs: * Arrive within the first HOUR of the job fair. Why? Because late arrivals often find that some employers leave job fairs before the end, especially if the job fair is slow). * Prepare your answer to the "What type of work are you looking for?" question posed to you by recruiters both articulately and concisely. * Bring paper copies of your resume but expect to apply to jobs electronically. * Be curious.
