If you want to identify the abilities of your students for their future work, you can evaluate different methods that provide you with meaningful insight into the relevance of their abilities and potential in various roles. Here are three effective ways to evaluate and identify the abilities of students: 1. Observation and Interaction: Pay attention to your students when they are in the classroom, participating in group work, engaging in discussions, or giving presentations. By interacting with students, you may discern how they demonstrate their ability to lead, teamwork, communicate, think critically, create, and solve problems as they engage with the content or each other in activities. 2. Skill Assessment Tests and Activities: You can also develop skill assessment tests or activities that mimic real-life work experiences or scenarios. In these assessments or activities, you can assess their technical skills, soft skills, cognitive abilities, problem-solving skills, and more. You could also implement online assessments, quizzes, case studies, or projects to assess their performance in certain areas that may be relevant for their potential career pathways. 3. Career Counseling and Mentoring: You may provide opportunities to conduct career counseling or mentorship meetings with students whenever available. In these meetings you can help students reflect on their interests, strengths, and career aspirations. You can also guide students to think about their skills, values, and goals and align these with possible career pathways. By talking one-on-one with your students, you might get a better idea of what the strengths, weaknesses, or potential growth areas are, so you can guide the student to make informed decisions about future employment. Combining these methodologies will more fully identify students' abilities, distinguish their strengths, gauge areas for improvement, and examine potential career pathways they could engage in. This information might be essential in helping students prepare for the workforce, which is continuously evolving, and to make informed decisions about fulfilling, successful, and meaningful work.

Why are encouraging remarks important for students? Well, encouraging remarks can boost students' motivation to learn and inspire them to keep doing well in their studies. Purposeful career education can change a student's life path. Not all of our students know people who are engaged and love their jobs. Each of them comes with a preconception about what a career journey could look like based on the people around them. If we want to create a more level playing field, we need to embed career education as early as possible. Now is the time to start integrating these themes and exercises into your everyday practice. What a year! It’s has been a manic and stressful year making the transition from adult guidance to school and sixth form guidance,  but has it massively help my professional development? - Yes! 🕺 Having extensive experience of working with individuals from a diverse range of backgrounds and ages ranging from school and college students, NEET school leavers, university undergraduate, postgraduate and PHD students to Adult Career Changers; has allowed me to make the connections between career stages and to give the best IAG to help navigate these. But more importantly … being in a school and college has made me appreciate that a one size career guidance does not fit all. I realised how robotic I was becoming in my practice where working in a school and sixth form has allowed me to relax my career guidance approach, which in turn has allowed me to listen more, allow the student to do more of the talking - keeping them in control of their own career journey … and guess what - students are getting more out of their appointments with me 😎 Change is scary, but it certainly has paid off.
