Milan Design Week cheat sheet: Where to find the fashion The event gives luxury fashion a chance to flaunt its design prowess in a fresh setting, with activations rivalling fashion week. Milan is set for its most important week of the year — and it’s not fashion week. Officially starting next Tuesday, Milan Design Week is the world’s pre-eminent annual showcase of new design in furniture and interiors. Its foundation and hub is the Salone del Mobile trade fair, founded in 1961. Over the years since, the entire Lombardian capital has become the site of countless peripheral events, which are together bundled under that Milan Design Week umbrella. If the 1960s was the decade during which Milan emerged as a global capital of furniture design, then it was the late ’70s and ’80s that saw the city establish itself as the equivalent in ready-to-wear. It did not take long for Italy’s pre-eminent fashion houses to spot the potential — and potential convenience — of expanding their endeavours from clothing and accessories to encompass home furnishings and interiors. Armani Casa was founded in 2000, and key Italian houses, including Fendi, Gucci, Dolce & Gabbana, Versace, Roberto Cavalli and Prada now all offer either homeware, furniture, or both. Plenty of international houses have got in on the action, too. https://lnkd.in/e6-qxjsX Vogue Business

In breaking fashion news: Have you ever stepped into a space so thoughtfully designed that it feels like walking into a work of art? Maison Alaïa’s new flagship store on Rue du Faubourg Saint-Honoré in Paris offers just that experience. Crafted by acclaimed Japanese architects Kazuyo Sejima and Ryue Nishizawa of SANAA, alongside creative director Pieter Mulier, this boutique isn’t just a retail space; it’s a marvel of contemporary design where luxury meets art. This stunning store redefines fashion retail with its unique approach. The ground floor is an artistic showcase, with four transparent tubular rooms lit in soft pinks, where garments seem to float in ethereal elegance. The design gracefully incorporates a curved glass façade that blurs the boundary between the inside and the bustling streets of Paris, allowing a dance of reflections and light. Venture upstairs, and you’ll find Le Café Sant Ambroeus on the mezzanine—a nod to timeless Milanese charm—which enriches the shopping experience with its warm and inviting vibe. This blend of high fashion and hospitality emphasizes Maison Alaïa’s dedication not just to fashion, but to creating immersive, human-centered spaces. Maison Alaïa’s flagship isn’t just a store; it’s a visionary statement that elevates the standards of luxury retail. Whether you are a fashion aficionado or an admirer of state-of-the-art design, this fusion of art and architecture is a must-see. 𝐅𝐚𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐗 𝐈𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐨𝐫 𝐖𝐡𝐞𝐧 𝐟𝐚𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐦𝐞𝐞𝐭𝐬 𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐨𝐫𝐬 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐥𝐮𝐱𝐮𝐫𝐲 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐣𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐬, 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐮𝐥𝐭𝐬 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐧𝐨𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐬𝐡𝐨𝐫𝐭 𝐨𝐟 𝐬𝐩𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐚𝐜𝐮𝐥𝐚𝐫. The luxury homes segment has been booming recently, showing no signs of slowing down. This segment has witnessed remarkable growth, driven by discerning buyers seeking exclusive lifestyles. As the market matures, the collaboration between fashion and luxury brands is redefining urban living, attracting those who desire a blend of sophistication and exclusivity. High-end fashion designers are now extending their design prowess beyond clothes to design beautiful spaces, leaving a legacy behind. Last year, I saw global fashion brands like 𝐕𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐚𝐜𝐞, 𝐅𝐞𝐧𝐝𝐢, and even 𝐏𝐨𝐫𝐬𝐜𝐡𝐞 tapping into the luxury residential space by lending their names and making apartments more appealing and expensive. For instance, Asian Paints has collaborated with Sabyasachi for their wallpaper collection, bringing haute couture to home decor. It’s only a matter of time before we see entire spaces designed by fashion icons like Manish Malhotra or Sabyasachi—if it isn’t already happening, who knows! Are there any fashion designers out there interested in collaborating on our next project? Let's create something extraordinary together! 😜 #PhiDesigns #FashionMeetsInterior #LuxuryDesign #TheLayoutCo

Why are luxury brands amplifying their presence at Milan Design Week, a prominent furniture event? Milan Design Week, or Salone del Mobile Milano, recently witnessed a blend of fashion and design, with standout performances from iconic brands like Hermès, Loewe, and Bottega Veneta. These luxury labels, amongst many others, used the stage to expand their influence, elevate their reputation, and forge deeper connections with audiences. This intersection of fashion and furniture goes beyond aesthetics—it's a strategic move in the ever-changing market landscape. As consumer preferences evolve, there's a growing opportunity for industry consolidation. While many fashion powerhouses are dipping their toes into homeware, Hermès stands out with a booming home business generating half a billion euros in annual revenue. At their most recent exhibition, Hermès revealed a compelling mix of equestrian-inspired cashmere throws, handcrafted leather chairs, and exquisite porcelain services. Meanwhile, at Loewe, Jonathan Anderson collaborated with 24 contemporary artists and craftspeople to reimagine lighting. The result? Unique artist lamps that seamlessly blend sculptural artistry with functional design, as seen in the image below (curtesy Loewe). It's fair to say that Milan Design Week has emerged as a pivotal platform where top fashion brands showcase their innovation in design, setting new trends in the intersection of fashion and home decor.

Very good assessment of the current developments Sanja Becirovic. What we have been seeing in the mainstream for years is continuing in the luxury sector.

Luxury is no longer limited to what you wear; it’s about how you live.🪑 This mood board explores a potential collaboration between Chanel and Maiden Home, merging Chanel’s iconic tweed with Maiden Home’s modern craftsmanship to create furniture that is both timeless and stylish. Why does this collaboration make sense? • Chanel, a global icon of heritage and elegance, has long influenced the world of design beyond fashion, with its signature aesthetic subtly shaping interiors and lifestyle. 🪡 • Maiden Home, a leader in contemporary interiors, elevates its designs with meticulous craftsmanship and a commitment to timeless quality. 🛋️ With luxury brands like Gucci and Hermès venturing into home design, collaborations like this could redefine our experience of fashion—not just on the runway, but also in the comfort of our homes. Imagine a Maiden Home armchair enveloped in Chanel’s signature tweed: furniture that is not just functional but also a true statement of style. 🖤

You have to admit, luxury is fascinating in the way it constantly evolves. One interesting evolution is the embracing of asymmetry and the imperfect. This shift marks a departure from the traditional need for flawless symmetry in design, acknowledging that there is profound beauty and exclusivity in uniqueness and sometimes even in ugliness. Jewellery, Watch, Fashion and Interior Designers are increasingly experimenting with elements that are not perfectly aligned or uniform and this not only challenges conventional notions of beauty but also resonates with consumers looking for bespoke and distinctive products. The flaw becomes the talking point almost. The designs reflect the individuality of the wearer or the space, creating a personal connection that enhances the luxury experience. This trend also signals a move towards more thoughtful, sustainable practices in the industry, where the beauty of materials is celebrated in their natural, unaltered state and I have to say, I rather like it. #LuxuryDesign #Asymmetry #AuthenticLuxury #UniqueDesigns #SustainableLuxury #BespokeElegance
