🚨** Solving Retail Crime is Not Difficult ** 🚨 Everyday of the week MY LOCAL BOBBY catch between 20-40 shopifters or pick pockets, across all its beats in London, the suburbs, Ipswich and Milton Keynes. Sadly the law does not allow us to prosecute offences under £200, (hopefully this will change tomorrow in the King’s Speech). In every case we serve a Trespass Notice. Should that offender then commit further crime on that beat we look to prosecute for a Burglary offence, providing there is sufficient evidence. The prospect of a conviction for Burglary is a significant deterrent. The risk of getting caught by MY LOCAL BOBBY and prosecuted has seen dramatic reductions in offending across all our beats. Our retail communities regularly highlight that they finally feel ‘Safe’ at work and going to and from work. This is not rocket science. You simply have to enforce the law. That also means retailers have to step up and share CCTV and evidence. Without that there can never be a successful enforcement strategy and the shops may as well have signs up stating ‘take what you like’. #creatingsafercommunities #eliminatingthefearofcrime #brokenwindows
Absolutely shocking and the shape of the country now…in London it’s daily and really brutal for all staff in any retailer especially considering the risk factor for the staff who actually interact with these people. Things need to be done across all retail stores as we are all in the same boat.
I certainly don't tolerate shop lifting David McKELVEY and as recently as last Saturday executed a 'Citizens Arrest' on a guy trying to steal baguettes from Greggs. The shop was full but no-one else moved when he blatantly came in and just removed items from the display and walked out. I followed him and brought him back to return the items.
David McKELVEY The law does allow the prosecution of low value theft. It is more that there is less of an appetite to prosecute. The implication that offenders can ransack shops without fear of prosecution if the bill is £199 is incorrect.
Hi David, I enjoy reading your posts and the fantastic work you do. However, I do have a question. I left the Police in 2014 and all stores that served trespassing notices on prolific offenders never once got charged for a burglary offence when i made these arrest, çps refused to. Has there been a shift with cps to be more proactive or is it police force dependant? Would be interested to hear your view on that.
It is Shocking how the retail crime is increasing and no one is able to do anything
No wonder labour got in 🙆♂️ they will act 3 years over time Theft is no long over a crime to do the time .🕰️

Ridiculous situation!
That would be hilarious if someone snuck up on them and then they heard the "click" of the safety coming off.
