Abstract submission for the 50th IoP Annual Plasma Physics conference is now open!

EXOSENS was invited to participate to OPTRO-2024 Symposium in January. It was a great opportunity to attend several great speeches among which was the one from Professor Donna Strickland -- University of Waterloo -- recipient of the Nobel Prize in Physics 2018 for developing chirped pulse amplification. I personally gave a keynote speech about 'Revealing the Invisible' and the different strategies for increasing the power of incoming signal without significantly introducing a degradation of the SNR (in low-light or weak signal conditions for instance) : 1/ multiplying electrons in silicon (avalanche effect, impact ionization) 2/ multiplying electrons in vacuum (secondary electron emission) My main message was a reminder that, in order to obtain a good noise-free electron amplifier, the best electron (to be manipulated) remains an electron that is not bound to an atom or molecule and is free to move under the influence of electric and magnetic fields :-)

[Scientific talk 💬] American Physical Society March Meeting, here we are! This is it, the most popular physics event! Benoît Neukelmance will present our latest amazing scientific result: Observation of microsecond lived quantum states in carbon-based circuits The talk is scheduled at 1:42 PM CST in the room 200G. The teaser 🤩 We manipulate the quantum state of a carbon nanotube double quantum dot with ferromagnetic contacts embedded in a microwave cavity. By performing quantum manipulations such as Rabi oscillations, Ramsey fringes and spin echoes, we demonstrate coherence times of the order of 1 μs, 2 orders of magnitude larger that what has been measured so far in any carbon quantum circuit and 1 order of magnitude larger than Si based quantum dots in comparable environment. This hold promises for pure isotopically purified 12C spin quantum bits in circuit quantum electrodynamics. I rarely post about scientific enhancement, but today #kudos to our collaborator Alan Goodman and the Stellarator theory group at Greifswald. This paper shows that "QI stellarators", the technology Proxima Fusion has chosen to achieve fusion, can be optimized to have great capabilities to confine the plasma, overcoming what people call "turbulent transport". 𝗣𝗵𝘆𝘀𝗶𝗰𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝗹𝗶𝗳𝗲: We are excited to share our new preprint on 3D diffusion in live E. coli, led by ZiaLab former PhD student @AlpSunol (now at Harvard) and @dsvalverdem in a great collaboration with the @shaevitz group at Princeton, where we show how colloidal physics regulate life-essential processes in biological cells.  Check out the paper and video at https://lnkd.in/g2GV4Ypv. We use a combination of 3D particle tracking of bGEMs and physics-based colloidal whole-cell simulations to understand how a particle’s size and charge impact its cellular localization and dynamics, as well as demystify the origin of apparent anomalous diffusion in E. coli.
