Will President Donald Trump's provocative "Drill, baby drill" during his inaugural speech lead to meaningful policy? Time will tell. But as the yachting industry continues a sensible move to "clean up" (if only for the sake of better PR) and companies like Italian yacht builder Sanlorenzo Yacht announce their latest initiative in achieving more sustainable yachts, this time in partnership with German engine manufacturer MAN Engines - A Business Unit of MAN Truck & Bus SE at Boot Düsseldorf, this feels a bit like whiplash. In the US, the mighty diesel engine is still the go-to choice for most yacht owners, because diesel is an energy-dense fuel and it's more than proven (and by Jove, those engines better start up). Incremental improvements on efficiency on new builds has been the way to go. In addition, the yachts in service here tend to be a bit older (30+). However, a vast majority of the larger yachts are built in Europe where most still seem to think there must be a better way to build and power yachts (although the industry is not quite sure yet where the solution lies). Yet a large portion of superyacht buyers are in the United States, with the Americas representing nearly half of some builder's production in some cases (especially since the Russian market went away). So what impact will this presidential statement have on the course of the yachting industry? What are YOUR thoughts? #futurefuel #yachtingindustry #diesel #gas #superyachts #newregime #drillbabydrill #yachtbuilding #energy

SANLORENZO H1 2024 RESULTS Net Revenues New Yachts at €415 million (+6.9% YoY), steady increase in profitability at all levels, and Net Backlog of €950 million, above a full year of revenues. Confirmed 2024 Organic Guidance, Nautor Swan’s contribution being on top. Massimo Perotti, Chairman and CEO of Sanlorenzo, commented: «In the first half of 2024 and until today, we have faced and overcome several challenges with determination and a dynamic approach, fully reflected in our positive results. First and foremost, we have maintained our planned growth trajectory, further expanding margins and consolidating a robust net backlog, in the context of a complex and uncertain global macroeconomic and geopolitical environment, from which even high-end luxury has not been immune. We successfully completed two avant-garde projects, key milestones in our ambitious roadmap toward increasingly sustainable yachting. In the summer, we delivered the 50Steel equipped with the green methanol reformer-fuel cell system for on-board hotellerie services, as well as the two BGH tenders with hydrogen propulsion built for two America's Cup challengers. In line with our sustainable product portfolio strategy, the acquisition of Nautor Swan, completed in early August, demonstrates our ability to identify investment opportunities with significant value creation potential, and integrate them with a long-term industrial rationale consistent with Sanlorenzo's philosophy. Swan is an extraordinary brand with which we can develop significant synergies, contributing importantly to the Group's results. We move forward with great optimism, fully aware of our strength and the validity of our strategic choices.» Read the full press release (ITA): https://lnkd.in/dBWhXRJK Read the full press release (ENG): https://lnkd.in/dDVjBSuC #SanlorenzoYacht #MassimoPerotti #H12024Results

Future proof innovations for yachts are happening now! I look forward to seeing and discussing these innovations during METSTRADE & The Superyacht Forum next week I will also be at Feadship later this week for the Italian Yacht Masters Association MASTERDAM event, where industry leaders from the world of design, new build, project management, yacht management and brokerage, are coming together for this exclusive event at Feadship to discuss the advancements shaping the yachting industry. Innovations like Feadship hydrogen powered Project 821 are setting new benchmarks for innovation & sustainability. The RWD designed Project 821 is paving the way for “net zero” yachts by 2030, setting standards in hydrogen propulsion and safety at the class, flag, and IMO (International Maritime Organization) levels. Feadship didn’t just push technological boundaries, it established critical regulations for hydrogen storage and fuel cell systems that benefit the entire industry. With “net zero” yachts on the horizon, future proofing is no longer optional. As Feadship have proven, the industry doesnt need to wait for regulation, the regulation can adapt around the industry. At ULTIMAR as Owner Representatives, we guide yacht owners through an ever evolving industry, ensuring they make informed decisions that align with long term innovations and future proofing in mind, and make forward thinking decisions that can potentially enhance their yachts value and sustainability. As we look to the future, independent representation becomes essential for owners navigating these complex advancements, protecting both their vision and investment. Im honoured to be included in the Feadship Masterdam 2024 event, prior to The Superyacht Forum and METSTRADE, gaining further insights and developing thoughts from industry professionals trying to shape a more sustainable yachting future. What do you see defining yachting in the next few years? Contemporary flybridge schooner SEA EAGLE in charter mode: the ultimate expression of personal freedom. Supersized sailing yachts: an attractive (and possibly even better) alternative to large motoryachts. Supersized sailing yachts offer the same enjoyment but are also much (more) fun while travelling from “A” to “B”. Also, they offer the stimulating experience of seeing the sails hoisted, catching the wind, and the slender bow cutting through the waves to pick up speed. Even those who are not keen on heeling angles, will be pleased to discover that new technologies exist to reduce lateral movement and heeling angle substantially. In addition to the thrill of sailing and the satisfaction of Royal Huisman’s bespoke quality, future owners will also enjoy the “green footprint” and the significant efficiency advantage of free propulsion power (the wind!). Last but not least, “energy-neutral”-mode will prove a much-appreciated feature: spinning the propellers to generate more than sufficient electrical power for all board systems, and for re-charging the batteries to enjoy “silent mode” while at anchor. For some, these features might sound like uncharted waters that require a lot more development, but not so for Royal Huisman. Are Explorer Yachts the Ultimate in Ocean going vessel? The potential to fully escape to the most remote corners definitely has huge appeal. Whatever your opinion, Explorer yachts 🚢 are on the rise and with a reported 740 vessels in fleet (6% of all Superyachts according to BOAT International Media) and a further 88 in build, shipyards worldwide are competing for a slice of this growing pie ⚓. But this isn’t just about slapping a few extra fuel tanks on a luxury vessel. These are ultra high-tech yachts with long range, self-sufficient capabilities, often built to Ice Class specifications, yet still providing the level of luxury that owners expect. Shipyards need to rethink design and engineering, upgrade testing facilities and build processes, and even adapt marketing strategies to ride this wave. Heavyweights like Damen Yachting, Sanlorenzo Yacht, and Feadship are all building incredible Explorers, and ICON Yachts conversions are next level. But as someone who is pretty Eco-conscious, I’m super excited for VARD's REV Ocean launch next year, and love the fact it will be used as a scientific platform alongside the luxury guest experience. What about you? Which is your favourite explorer to date and who are the players to watch out for? Let me know your thoughts below. #Exploreryacht #superyacht #goanywhere
