Listening to understand means listening beyond words. It means opening our hearts and minds, and genuinely caring about the other person. I almost got into a fight with a friend today due to my lack of empathy. I'm not proud of it, and I share this experience so that if you ever find yourself in a similar situation, know that it can happen, and what matters is how we recover. If you truly care about the other person, lead with love, connection, and peace, rather than the need to be right. I practice this every single day, and even then, days like today happen. I'm still learning and will continue learning throughout my life, focusing on improving how I listen and communicate. Daily practice allows me to catch myself faster and shift my mindset and perspective to make things better as soon as possible. I invite you to reflect on how you listen to others. Have you lost your way?! Summer is never the easiest time to stay motivated. We all have our own unique tricks and tips to keep going when we feel our energy draining. From listening to music, taking a beach walk, talking to a mentor or reward system. For me I focus on my why; the reason for wanting what it is I want. The vision. The big picture. That keeps me going especially when the going gets tough. At the end of the day, people only do what they truly want to do. If you haven't figured out exactly what you want and why, then there's no-one that can help you. Hospitality craves authenticty. I get it - You see a young GM, you think "been there, done that." But climbing to the top... Isn't just about hitting milestones.
