Labour's Andy Burnham has won his third successive term as mayor of Greater Manchester. Mr Burnham's overwhelming win saw him receive 420,749 votes, almost two-thirds of those available, which he said was an "emphatic endorsement" of his policies. He said he looked forward "to getting on with the job again", adding: "I won't let you down." Mr Burnham received more than 350,000 more votes than the Conservatives' Laura Evans, who came second with 68,946. Celebrating 20 years of Business Improvement Districts (BIDs)! Since the first BID pilot in 2003, BIDs have driven £1 billion of investment into towns and cities across the UK, strengthening local economies and communities. The number of BIDs has now grown to over 340, with BIDs appearing in all four nations of the UK. A business improvement district is a defined area of a town or city where a levy is charged on all eligible business rate payers. BID levies are voted for via a ballot which takes place every five years. Currently, BIDs invest £152m in local economies across the country, helping to support investment in towns and cities at a time when public sector funding has been impacted by budget cuts across a range of departments. Positively Putney has proudly supported our business community since 2017 investing £2m in the town centre over the 7.5 years. Day to day services include street cleaning, planting, crime reduction initiatives, promotion, connecting businesses, training and networking. Funding for training to aid your recovery from Cyclone Gabrielle. To kick off 2024 the Hawke's Bay Chamber of Commerce has got big news to share! As part of the Regional Recovery and Resilience funding package announced by the Government in September, they’re expanding services through the Regional Business Partner Network (RBP). RBP offers support for businesses to access valuable resources and expertise to navigate the path towards success, and expanding these services to include recovery is a vital step towards impacted businesses building back better. Our local business community has experienced considerable difficulty, not only through the Cyclone itself but the reverberations are still being felt by many. By extending the support through the RBP programme, the Chamber aims to provide a comprehensive and tailored approach to help businesses rebuild, adapt, and thrive. Your business may be eligible for funding to undergo training or coaching with eligible training providers, offering an additional layer of support and expertise to further enhance your business’ recovery journey. The Townsville Scorecard Report Team have raised $1300 for Fuel For Schools and from the 2022 Townsville Scorecard are establishing JCU NQ Sporting Scholarships. The 2023-24 Townsville Scorecard Report investigates 13 important social and economic indicators, provides information on comparative performance and discusses some of the links between variables that influence local performance and wellbeing. “Townsville regularly appears in state and national, TV and newspaper articles about crime, and it's deteriorating. The cost of a poor national crime reputation can't be underestimated. It is associated with poor worker recruitment, underperforming migration levels, higher contents and car insurance costs and influences investor confidence.
