Mae Anderson, small business reporter for The Associated Press, highlights a recent trend impacting small businesses. In June, small business sales growth experienced a decline as consumers paused on spending, influenced by high prices and interest rates. According to Fiserv's latest data, the Fiserv Small Business Index dropped to 140 from 144 in May, with sales decreasing by 2.9% and transactions down by 1.5% month-over-month. Although sales and transactions were higher compared to last year, the slowdown was attributed to budget-conscious consumers reducing average ticket sizes.
