Artificial Intelligence (#AI) and #nuclearpower have a symbiotic relationship in that AI could dramatically accelerate the development and deployment of the nuclear technologies required to power the data centres that drive AI... In today's "Outdoor Insights" I speak about the opportunity and the need for innovation in our utilities, our regulator, and our government policies as we seek to deliver nuclear power at the speed and scale required by the Microsoft, Google and Meta of the world.

With massive energy demands of training and running AI models, big tech companies like Microsoft, Amazon and Google are turning to nuclear power. Through the use of Small Modular Reactors (SMRs), these companies plan to fuel their AI ambitions in a smaller, safer, and more cost-effective manner. This could mark a new era of nuclear power, making it a key factor in the future of tech and AI. #Tech #AI #NuclearPower

The AI revolution is driving a resurgence in small nuclear power plants. "Princeton University researchers have completed a new study using #artificialintelligence (#AI) to address instabilities with #nuclearfusion energy. The Princeton team developed an AI model to predict plasma disruptions in real time. Their system was able to provide advanced warnings 300 milliseconds before plasma tearing occurred. This could allow operators to take preventive measures and maintain the #fusion reaction. The researchers believe their approach of using AI for prediction shows promise for managing the complexities of #fusionenergy." #nuclearenergy #nuclear #energy

Very eager and happy to share that I’ve been accepted to present and publish at the Advances in Thermal Hydraulics 2024 Winter Conference hosted by the American Nuclear Society! My presentation will cover the impacts of using certain network configurations on transfer learning within Physics-Informed Neural Networks (PINNs). This is coupled with an extremely tough challenge: making it perform well with turbulent incompressible turbulent flows. This work marks a significant step for the nuclear industry, as AI has often been seen with skepticism. However, efforts like these are part of the ongoing push by institutions to raise confidence levels in integrating AI into the design phase of nuclear systems. By applying AI to areas such as uncertainty quantification and safety analysis, this work aims to build a foundation for greater trust in AI-driven approaches within nuclear engineering.
