CDK Outage - Day 7 (6th operational day): CDK Global is now calling the cyberattack that took down its software platform for its auto dealership clients "a ransom event." according to the linked CBS report. CDK also added in the note that it has started restoring its systems and expects the process of bringing major applications back online "to take several days and not weeks." This is welcome news for dealers affected by this outage and we all hope that they can pull that herculean task off in light of the fact that most experts stating that it normally takes weeks. No doubt that this is a "all hands on deck" moment for the CDK leadership and team to make that happen. Once again my support is for all involved and affected and I have an even greater level of admiration for dealers, their leadership teams and especially those on the front lines who continue to meet their respective clients needs in the face of what has been a massive and unprecedented challenge. Here's hoping that the restoration happens soon! Please share your thoughts and any example of dealers/associates who have done amazing work to keep their businesses going. I guarantee it will be hugely uplifting for all dealership personnel. Thank you. https://lnkd.in/gudHz4-E
CDK Global calls cyberattack that crippled its software platform a "ransom event"

Seems like a great opportunity to hear from all the DMS and even the CRM providers on what safeguards they have in place to protect against attacks like this.
Isn't the first and won't be the last.. thoughts out to all on the front lines! Car people showing that they are the toughest in the business world!
i hope CDK does not pay the ransom. it only encorages further hacking. its clear companies need robust, co-located backup systems and strong cybersecurity to avoid this, and if it does happen be ready to do a quick restore.
So glad I’m retired and away from the dealership life🙏🏻
David last night I had Justin Shanken of BLACK BREACH on my Clubhouse room. He spoke at NADA for Cybersecurity on the main stage. It was truly enlightening as to the information he shared to all. I suggest listening to the replay. As this event is far from over.
It would be nice to have some sort of timeline.
Restoration then prevention.
Is CDK communicating more with CBS than their dealer clients? 🤔

3moAs a general agent I have been through this once with a VSC admin. While we all want restoration as quick as possible, there are other things play into the timeline. I would assume that CDK is having a team go through every line of code to make sure it is clean. The last thing we need is a quick restoration without safeguards. There needs to be safety that the hackers have not left themselves backdoors into the program where they could do this again. These are some of my, and what I think, are worst case scenarios. Unfortunately I think it will be a longer process than expected or wanted!
