LinkedIn’s Top Voice in Usability Testing, Product Design, Branding, and User Interface Design | UI Designer
Understanding the Difference: Art Director vs. Creative Director The roles of an art director and a creative director often overlap, but they have distinct responsibilities and focuses. - Creative Director • Visionary Leader: Responsible for the overall vision and direction of a project, overseeing the entire creative process from conception to completion. • Strategic Planning: Ensures all visuals, messages, and installations are cohesive and aligned with the project’s goals. • Client Liaison: Acts as the main point of contact between the client and the creative team. • Team Management: Leads brainstorming sessions, assigns responsibilities, manages budgets, and ensures deadlines are met. - Art Director • Visual Focus: Primarily responsible for the visual elements of a project, focusing on aesthetics and the overall look and feel. • Execution: Takes the creative director’s vision and executes it through detailed design work, collaborating with graphic designers, photographers, and other visual artists. • Hands-On Role: Involved in the hands-on creation of visual content, ensuring alignment with the project’s goals. Both roles are crucial in bringing a project to life, but they operate at different levels of the creative process. #DesignLeadership #CreativeDirector #ArtDirector #DesignProcess #CreativeVision #VisualDesign #CareerGrowth #UXDesign #UIUX #DesignThinking

Hiring or joining the swarm of creative visual designers may require a genuine understanding of their work. If you are hiring a Designer for your media stunts or if you’re transitioning to becoming a Brand Designer, here are 4 Characteristics of an effective Visual Designer: Communication Skills (50%): Clear, effective communication with clients and team members. What makes a visual storyteller effective is the ability to transform creative strategy into an output that resonates with the target audience, achieve amiable metrics, and purposefully impact the creative space. Fundamental Knowledge (20%): A deep understanding of design principles and visual aesthetics allows designers to become flexible and rather not be imprisoned to a specific style of their outputs. Creativity requires scalable outputs in an ever-evolving industry space. A great fundamental knowledge will give a designer a path to a wider perspective of every subject. Creativity and Practicality (20%): Ability to innovate while meeting practical design requirements. Is an essential skill to be able to propose a specified visual solution to a specific problem. Achieving project success may also come from surpassing financial, social, and industrial issues. Software Proficiency (10%): Competence in relevant design software for efficient workflow. The last step is to practice sharing only 10% of the whole pie. Tools and software must be utilized to craft an overall approach. However, not all great-looking and highly fabricated outputs can achieve amenable results. Oftentimes simplicity in visual messaging is the ones that achieve campaign success. #DesignSolutions #Creative #GraphicDesign #Communication #HumanResources #Hiring #AdDesign

I can't believe the city of Los Angeles did this. Some ads are so good you just have to share them. This was six years ago. The city of Los Angeles put up this ad for a graphic designer, but they had it look like it was made by a child using Microsoft Paint. The ad went viral and they got more applications from top designers than they could imagine. The best comment: “You don't need to hire a graphic designer, you've already got the best one.” I am obsessed with creative ads like this. #advertising #branding #digitalmarketing #viralmarketing

I've got bad news. That "superman" graphic designer you're looking for? It doesn't exist. It's simply unrealistic to expect one person to be a master of UX/UI, branding, illustration, motion graphics, and more all at once. The truth is, design is a team sport. Once you embrace collaboration, you'll realize that the collective expertise teaches you nuances and brings out creativity that no single super-talent can capture. So should you stop searching for the perfect fit? Of course not. Hiring standout designers is magnificent. But remember, building a strong, mixed-skill team is often where the real magic happens #DesignTeam #Collaboration #UXDesign #UIDesign #GraphicDesign #CreativeProcess #DesignThinking #Teamwork #Hiring #DesignCommunity #Creativity #Branding

My thoughts: It’s a clever take on the unrealistic expectations placed on graphic designers. The superhero comparison is spot on—many assume designers can do everything perfectly and effortlessly, but the reality is they are humans with specialized skills, not superheroes. This image perfectly captures the frustration and irony of those unrealistic demands. #graphicdesign #designcommunity #collaboration #branding

https://lnkd.in/gY9NqJSN I've always enjoyed this breakdown of art director vs designer by Jeremy Carson. It aligns well with my thoughts on the roles. I mean I am both, my start was in design and I have years of experience, so I can still whip out some great-looking stuff and I always like getting my hands dirty! But, when you start building whole campaigns, and visual identities, from concept to completion... Looking at design systems from a 40-80 thousand foot view and leading teams to get the jobs done, you are no longer just a designer. That said, art director is a job title I absolutely loathe. The reason I say that is it means different things in different fields. A graphic design art director is not the same as an advertising art director, which is not the same as a game art director, which is not the same as a film art director, which is not the same as... You get where I'm going here... There are similarities, in each, you are directing look and feel, depending on your background and skills you can even overlap into multiple categories, but they aren't the same. I'm a graphic design, specifically branding and trade dress art director. Who can also be an advertising art director when I have the right team to work with. I've bounced between the art director title and Sr. designer title for the last couple of years, but I don't think I can do it anymore and be happy. I've grown out of just Sr. designer. If your "Sr designer" role is predominantly leading and mentoring teams, concepting, directing the work of others, and being responsible for their output, please consider your job title for the role. Especially for a contract role, where you are only going to engage this person for months but their resume will wear the title for years. These titles are different things, with different salary expectations, and even with a description of the job they actually did, and paying them fairly for that job, the name does read differently on a resume. I'm open to work, but I have shot down a couple of recruiters who have come to me with contract roles recently because of this exact issue.

I can agree to disagree. With so much demands in the corporate world, I can say we ought to push our limits as designers. The only concern I have, is that do entities understand what it means to wield such skillsets? The sacrifices we endure to acquire all skillsets? Will they offer you a reasonable salary that will complement what you put on the table? At the moment I'm pushing to add Web developing and UI/UX into my CV, and that's a stretch considering the skills I possess. Bottom line is, every skillset carries it's own significant value.
