Today I'm glad to see my recent work on the nature of the evaluation discipline published in the new edited book at SAGE, "Core Concepts in Evaluation: Classic Writings and Contemporary Commentary". A big thank you to the team of editors who supported the authors with professionalism and wisdom. In this chapter I discuss the need to develop substantive theories of program evaluation around its subject matter, i.e., the value determination of social interventions, as opposed to a discipline that limits itself to theories of evaluation practice.
