Happy Thursday! Quick Question that came to mind after the strong 20 Year Note Auction yesterday. WHY??? It seems that as interest rates go up on Treasuries (as well as mortgage rates) at some point, the bond buyers for investment portfolios decide to step into the market. Especially since a lot of money had been off to the sidelines in Money Market Accounts. There is still concern about sticky inflation and better economic data and the heavy debt loan from the US Treasury. Therefore, to summarize, the cure for higher rates is higher rates. Mortgage rates crept up and the 10-year Treasury almost hit 4.70% before dropping down to 4.62% (which I mentioned before seems to be a buying point for Bond Portfolios) This morning, the Philly Fed rose to 15.5 this month, well above the 1.5 expected, while Jobless Claims were near estimates and had little market impact. Existing Home Sales data came out. I will post the graphic about this shortly. Interesting to see some of the additional breakdowns. Sold over list price moved up to 29% from 20% and First Time Homebuyers jumped to 32% from 26%. However, cash Buyers Dropped to 28% from 33% and Investors also dropped from 21% to 15%. Elliot Eisenberg is a bit more optimistic than most economists. He said that there was an early April survey of business and academic economists. The percentage predicting a recession within the next two years declined from 39% three months ago to 29%. This is the lowest percentage since 4/22 when recession chances were pegged at 28%. Better yet, just 10% expect at least one quarter of negative growth over the next 12 months, down from 33% in January. Hopefully you all have great credit scores out there, but please connect with me for a confidential call if you ever need an intro to someone who can help in that area.
