🔍 The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Association (SAMHSA) defines trauma as experiences that are physically or emotionally harmful, leading to long-lasting adverse effects on an individual's well-being. Trauma can severely impact a student's ability to learn, manifesting as difficulty focusing, retaining information, missing classes, and anxiety. A trauma-informed pedagogical approach prioritizes recognizing these signs among students. Notably, the COVID-19 pandemic has disproportionately affected African American, Latinx, Indigenous communities, Pell recipients, and those with children.
