I spoke with a business owner this week about his team's burnout and resiliency levels. But we hit a wall. He was interested in providing resiliency and wellness training, but not in a deeper review of why his team was experiencing stress and burnout in the first place. I see this often, as a microcosm of people programs: leaders want to address symptoms because it's cheaper in the moment. Those kinds of leaders don't usually hire me because I push them on it. The ones I work with are the leaders who are interested in doing the right thing: creating better conditions for their people, and the right thing (long-term) for their business. Their people stay longer, do better work because they are happier, and are willing to refer other awesome talent when new roles open. Which approach makes sense to you?

As a recent graduate navigating the job market since graduating 🎓 , securing my first interview was a true highlight! I did not expect it to take this long to land my first interview! The graduate program I was initially thrilled about was quite different from what I had anticipated. One surprise was being unpaid for the first 12 weeks of training – a challenging prospect I was potentially prepared to accept, considering my longing for a career change. The real deal-breaker was the scarcity of potential employers in a commutable area, which limited my opportunities significantly. The interview itself was a fantastic experience, and I received glowing feedback—however, the program's relocation requirement needed to be revised for my current family situation. While I couldn't proceed with this opportunity, it was a valuable reminder that things always happen for a reason. On the plus side, I got to test my brain with 45 mind-boggling questions: Numerical Reasoning, Cognitive Processing, Analytical Reasoning, Vocabulary and Reading Comprehension. I am ecstatic to be within the 85 percentile! 🧠 So, I am more determined and excited for the future! I am keenly looking for roles in software development that offer flexibility, be it remote, hybrid or commutable. I'd appreciate any recommendations or referrals if you know of potential opportunities. 🤙

Week 6 ends, another unsatisfying week, more demoralisation, more disheartening. I assumed based on experience, skill set and thanks to Ann Barker a revitalised CV I’d perhaps face slightly more success. However another week rolls by and this time round I haven’t even had a singular reply from a role I’ve applied to in the last couple weeks. However, I have no intention of giving up, I can’t afford to. I’m determined to find a new job, a new career and a new path to venture forth on. The stats for week 6s end are as following Jobs applied to: 782 Jobs heard back from: 107 Interviews: 2 If any of my connections themselves are hiring or know of anyone hiring, I’m very much open to any role.

🌱🐝 Embracing Growth During Job Hunt! 🐝🌱 I hope this post finds you well.    While navigating the job market, I decided to invest my time wisely and recently completed both a gardening and beekeeping course! 🌿🍯 It's been an incredible journey, and I wanted to share a bit about what I've gained. 🌻 Gardening Wisdom: The gardening course taught me more than just the art of cultivating beautiful plants. It's about patience, nurturing, and the joy of seeing something you've cared for thrive. 🐝 Beekeeping Buzz: Beekeeping, on the other hand, opened my eyes to the delicate balance of nature. Understanding the critical role bees play in our ecosystem has given me a new perspective on collaboration, teamwork, and the significant impact we can make collectively every day. 🌸 How It Translates to the Job Hunt: Adaptability: Just like tending to different plant species, I've learned to adapt to diverse work environments. Attention to Detail: Beekeeping has honed my attention to detail, a skill crucial in any professional role. Teamwork: Bees are the epitome of teamwork; I've embraced the importance of collaboration in achieving common goals. As I continue my job search, I'm excited about the prospect of contributing these skills and perspectives to a new professional environment. 🚨 Calling on all my fellow neurodivergent folks!! I feel like burnout isn't something spoken about as much anymore, but as a neurodivergent with an insanely high efficiency level, I feel myself hitting that threshold often. At twice once a week I get into a super groove where I find myself working for 6+ hours straight - no water, no bathroom, just laser focus and extreme productivity. The recovery from sessions like that are intense though! What steps do you take to ensure that you aren't getting burnt out on days where you know your productivity has been on a superhuman level? Do you take it easy that next day? Do you force yourself to break that focus and take breaks during the day? Open to any and all ideas and feedback - thanks in advance!

Last Friday, I turned 27, hooray! Not a milestone birthday, but still a day to celebrate. Then the same morning, I got unfortunate news that the company I work for is ceasing operations. Not the type of news you want to hear on any typical day. But I have had time to reflect and had great support and love from family and friends. I won’t see this as a block in the road, just a minor speed bump. I am taking the time to reflect my skills, look over and update my resume, and apply to jobs. I have learned so much at my time at Neighborhood TV. It was my first ever sales job, and you can only imagine how nervous I was. But my first month in, I got my first client. That gave me the confidence that if I put my mind to it and do my research, I can do anything. As long as I have the passion and drive. My position also got me out of my comfort zone, taught me that even though a prospect says no, it doesn’t mean they are saying no to me as a person. Just no to the product, so it has taught me how to handle rejection even more. Those rejections help me think of how I can improve my communication as well. I have learned so much and will apply it to my next career and also my personal life. People tend to forget that skills they learn in a work setting can be applied to everything else in life. I look forward to see what is out there for me. If you know of any leads for positions that are creative (UI/UX, Graphic Design, Social Media, Events), I would greatly appreciate any leads.
