So what is the big deal about the AD4170 and why is it important? Well to put is mildly, this is a leap forward in performance and integration. We took the best learning from the AD7124 (already a huge leap forward in Integration and performance for Sigma-Delta ADC) and focused on optimizing the noise and input bandwidth whilst adding additional smarts for ease of customer use. The integrated PGA is extremely low noise, to enable much better signal capture, the 50KHz input BW enables the measurement of AC signals for Structural Health or Condition Monitoring and the integrated, user programmable FIR filter allows the customers to remove extraneous information in the ADC, without having to load the system uC or transmit superfluous data. The AD4170 is the next generation of Intelligent Edge Converters from Analog Devices and augments our Precision Sigma-Delta product portfolio.

Exciting news for high-speed transceiver testing! Power supply noise immunity testing, a crucial part of high-speed transceiver qualification and characterization, has become more accessible and effective. Previously, this test was challenging due to limitations in power and bandwidth with home-brew implementations. The new QSFP-DD 7.1 specification includes a groundbreaking methodology for performing this test using the Picotest P2124A High-Speed Line Modulating PSRR/PSMR/PSNR Water-Cooled GaN Probe. Section 4.7.6, "Module Power Supply Noise Tolerance Methods," outlines how the Picotest P2124A probe ensures full power and bandwidth, meeting all test requirements. This is a significant milestone for Picotest, as it standardizes the use of our industry-leading water-cooled GaN probe technology for PSNR, PSMR, and PSRR testing. Essential Tools and Concepts in RF Design Understanding the tools and parameters in RF design is vital for high-performance results. Let's explore key elements like VNAs, ADS, HFSS, and S-parameters. Vector Network Analyzers (VNAs) VNAs are advanced test instruments used by RF engineers to measure complex network electrical characteristics. They provide performance details by sending and measuring signals. Functions include S-parameter measurement, impedance analysis, and performance evaluation. Examples are Keysight E5071C or Rohde & Schwarz ZVA series. Advanced Design System (ADS) ADS is a powerful EDA software suite from Keysight Technologies. It enables RF circuit and system simulation and analysis, and helps design and optimize components. It's used to simulate and optimize RF amplifier designs before prototyping. High Frequency Structure Simulator (HFSS) HFSS by Ansys is 3D electromagnetic simulation software for high-frequency component design and simulation. It offers 3D modeling, electromagnetic behavior simulation, and optimization to meet standards. Key S-Parameters S11 measures reflection at Port 1, S21 indicates forward transmission, S12 shows reverse transmission, and S22 measures reflection at Port 2. Rf over fiber modules Mini 50~3000MHz Analog Wideband Transceiver Module Optical Transmission modulator The Mini analog wideband transceiver module is a low-cost, high-performance analog wideband transceiver with a very wide dynamic range, designed specifically for optical fiber RF applications. A pair of transceivers will create two-way RF to optical and optical to RF conversion and transmission links that can provide high spurious free dynamic range (SFDR), operating at frequencies from 50MHz to 3000MHz. The standard optical connector is FC/APC for low back reflection applications, and the RF interface is via a 50 ohm SMA connector. The receiver uses high performance InGaAs photodiode, the transmitter uses linear optical isolation FP/DFB laser, and the optical fiber uses 9/125 μm single-mode fiber with working wavelength of 1.3 or 1.5μm.
