As we celebrate Community Garden Week, I'm reflecting on the incredible journey we've had with our community sensory garden in Jubilee Park. A couple of years ago, alongside some amazing volunteers, we rolled up our sleeves and brought this beautiful space to life. From planting Colourful flowers to creating pathways, every moment was filled with love and dedication. One of the highlights for me was reaching out to our local community for donations of plants and flowers. It was heartwarming to see the generous contributions pouring in from all corners. Want to bring your community project to life too? Here are some tips on getting donations: Use local community groups: Spread the word about your project in local community groups and forums. You'd be surprised how many people are willing to help when they know it's for a good cause. Approach local businesses: Reach out to local shops and businesses for donations of materials or funds. Many businesses are happy to support community initiatives. Host fundraising events: Organise events like bake sales, table top sales, or charity auctions to raise funds for your project. Not only are these events fun, but they also bring the community together. Get creative with advertising: Design eye-catching ads for social media, local newspapers, or community notice boards to spread the word about your project and attract potential donors. 2024 – the year we all try to #reuse more!    We’re all thinking about ways to reuse now, whether donating, repairing and re-wearing or re-selling.    Here our top tips to get the most out of what you have:    💚 Repair your household items instead of ditching them. There’s a big grassroots movement with repair cafes popping up all over our communities – a quick look online should help you scout them out  💚 Donate and hep your community. There’s lots of reuse charities such as the British Heart Foundation who will accept unwanted good condition items, from furniture to clothing. Here you can see we have two garages going at the same time. Pro tip: We start on one wall of every room we are in in order to “take control” of the area. This gives us a place to put all of the things that are being kept, donated, and trash. Did you know that this year Ukraine was ranked second in the World Giving Index and remains the only European country in the top ten? This was reported by the British organization Charities Aid Foundation. The report states that in general, among adult Ukrainians, 78% help strangers, 70% donate and 37% volunteer. This is a great indicator, but we still suggest improving it - join the B50 volunteering program and support the activities of our community financially.
