The world is on course for temperatures 3.2°C above pre-industrial levels by 2100. We must act now towards #green solutions. 🌳 By bridging various disciplines—urban #planning, landscape design, architecture, sociology, community development, engineering, economy, and geography—Miyamoto International builds sustainable and resilient communities. ➡️ María Carrizosa Aparicio, Sr. Urban Planner, shares her vision on the current #projects focusing on urban Revitalization and climate resilience: "From urban diagnostics of the areas, we envision a socio-ecological framework that recognizes the way water flows and the significant potential of existing water #infrastructure. This framework paves the way for a revitalized urban environment characterized by green and blue infrastructure and a vibrant #network of public spaces. This approach aims to enhance sustainable mobility, #preserve heritage, and breathe new life into the surrounding neighborhoods." This #EarthDay, let's rethink city designs for a sustainable and net-zero world. . . . #EarthDay2024 #GlobalGoals #Sustainability #ProtectThePlanet #UrbanDevelopment #Urban #Mobility #UrbanLife #ActNow #Miyamoto

What a better setting than a Breakfast Talk at the NLA to talk about how food is produced, consumed, and shared. We discussed what role food growing in cities can play to address the climate and biodiversity crisis, while making cities more productive, enjoyable, green, and collective.
Irene Frassoldati joined Agamemnon Otero MBE, Flynn Williams & Lady Lucy French OBE at this morning's NLA breakfast talk, encouraging us to think about food and how it can play a transformative role in integrating local communities and enhancing urban environments. Our M-Nex research explores the intersection between food, energy consumption and water in our cities. It advocates for strategic spatial planning in our cities, for this vital land use and for showing clients examples of what could be achievable “People need to see to believe” if we are to harness this opportunity to beyond a Utopian dream and instead integrate food growing into the fabric of every part of our city. #urbanists #architects #anglodutch https://lnkd.in/ebek2Qzw

The Hunger for Space: A Costly Feast This striking image captures a harsh reality of modern urbanization—our cities, represented by the towering buildings, are devouring the very forests that sustain life on Earth. As urban landscapes expand, they often do so at the expense of nature, consuming vital green spaces in an insatiable quest for more living and commercial space. At Sheher Saaz, we recognize the importance of balancing urban growth with environmental preservation. This visual metaphor serves as a powerful reminder of the consequences when development is pursued without regard for sustainability. The forests being swallowed by these monstrous structures symbolize the alarming rate at which natural habitats are being sacrificed in the name of progress. We are committed to fostering urban development that coexists with nature rather than competes with it. Our goal is to create cities that are not just concrete jungles but living ecosystems that nourish both people and the planet. Let’s rethink our approach to urbanization and ensure that our hunger for space doesn’t come at the cost of our environment. Message: The expansion of our cities shouldn't mean the destruction of our forests. At Sheher Saaz, we believe in a future where urban growth is balanced with environmental stewardship, creating spaces where both nature and humanity can thrive. Let’s make choices that prioritize sustainability and ensure a greener, healthier world for future generations. . . . . . #SustainableDevelopment #UrbanPlanning #EcoFriendly #GreenArchitecture #EnvironmentalStewardship #SustainabilityMatters #FutureCities #NatureConservation #SustainableLiving #UrbanDesign #ConsciousLiving #GreenFuture #ResponsibleGrowth #UrbanSustainability #EcoInnovation #ForestPreservation #SheherSaazUK #BuildForTomorrow #NatureFirst #EnvironmentalAwareness #SheherSaaz

🌿🏙️ The Future of Cities: Biotech Urbanism Imagine walking through a city where buildings grow and heal themselves, streets are lit by glowing plants, and the urban landscape actively purifies air and water. This isn't science fiction—it's the promise of Biotech Urbanism. By fusing ecosystemic thinking, nature-based solutions, and cutting-edge biotechnology, we're reimagining cities as living, breathing ecosystems. Here's a glimpse into this exciting frontier: 🍄 Mycelium-based construction: Buildings that grow and filter water 🌳 Bioluminescent urban lighting: Energy-efficient, genetically engineered plants lighting our streets 🛣️ Self-healing infrastructure: Roads and bridges that repair themselves, inspired by biological processes These innovations aren't just about sustainability—they're about creating urban environments that actively contribute to ecological health and human wellbeing. As we face unprecedented urban challenges, Biotech Urbanism offers a path to cities that don't just coexist with nature, but become nature. What do you think? Are we ready for cities that are more alive than ever before? #BiotechUrbanism #SustainableCities #UrbanInnovation #Biomimicry #FutureCities https://lnkd.in/dY86SPuS

It’s Alive is a conceptual vision for a ‘living’ socio-technological tall building in the year 2050 that imagines tall buildings fulfilling multiple roles in response to the changing needs of our society and planet. I like the way the report has real example projects alongside to illustrate that the things being suggested aren't just wild ideas. Read the full report. #TallBuildings #WeAreArup

How can we transform our cities into greener, healthier environments? As part of the Mooi Nederland (Beautiful Netherlands) program, FABRICations partnered with DELVA Landscape Architecture / Urbanism and Arcadis to create a comprehensive manual for municipalities addressing this urgent issue. The extensive research, including site visits and interviews, revealed six essential building blocks for greener cities: social networks, slow mobility, recognizable spaces, health-oriented areas, ecological frameworks, and climate-adaptive infrastructures. Four key topics (spatial planning, knowledge sharing, public engagement, and financing mechanism) were also outlined to empower these initiatives. This manual is one of eight action perspectives designed to guide transformative urban planning, helping our cities evolve into vibrant, sustainable communities. It provides practical strategies and tools for implementation, linking actionable steps with the necessary instruments to drive these changes forward. Curious to learn more? "Craft is an essential part of the cultural expression of Colombian territories and in the High Andean region, artisan trades hold significant importance. "For Gutiérrez, craft is the foundation of great architecture. 'Everything you see here has been built through workshops of people who have never built before,' she explains. Within the organization’s Sustainable Settlements Department, she has hosted workshops on bio-construction techniques from bamboo, straw bale walls, and natural fiber roofs to composting toilets, alternative energies, and biodynamic agriculture, among others. "'Every time [we host a workshop] we realize that there is something else we’re missing in our understanding of architecture.'"
