In August, human migration events were most prevalent across large areas of the Mediterranean Sea and off the West Coast of Africa with migrants being rescued or intercepted in all the main transit routes between North Africa and Asia into Europe. There was a sharp rise in the number of boats trying to reach the Italian Island of Lampedusa from Libya as tensions between rival factions increased in the North African country.
The Greek and Turkish coastguards carried out several rescue missions and interceptions throughout the month, on 06 Aug, a cruise ship rescued 77 migrants 112nm southwest of the town of Pylos in Greece and put them ashore in Kalamata. Elsewhere, two superyachts sank in Europe, three vessels suffered a complex attack in the Red Sea, and there were four boarding incidents in the Singapore Strait and also in the Caribbean. On a better note, the SW Monsoon continues to supress piracy in the Somali Basin and Indian Ocean – for now!

Maritime Security Bulletin and Advisory
Re: Be Advised of Continuing Maritime Rescue Operations in the Gulf of Aden and Red Sea Region Near Djibouti.
Issued by Sanborn Analytics
Date: October 2nd, 2024
Attention: Maritime Shipping Community and Armed Naval Forces at Sea
Sanborn Analytics issues this maritime security bulletin and advisory to inform the maritime shipping community and naval forces of an ongoing crisis in the Gulf of Aden region.
As of October 2nd, 2024, rescuers are searching for over 100 migrants off the coast of Djibouti following a tragic incident where smugglers forced them to jump into the sea, according to a report by the U.N. migration agency. At least 45 bodies have been recovered, making this year the deadliest on record for sea crossings between East Africa and Yemen, as confirmed by the International Organization for Migration (IOM).
Two boats carrying a total of 310 passengers departed from Yemen, and only 154 survivors have been rescued thus far. The Djiboutian Coast Guard is continuing search and rescue operations to locate the missing migrants.
Advisory to Shipping and Naval Forces:
- Increased Vigilance:
Maritime operators in the Gulf of Aden and surrounding waters are advised to maintain heightened vigilance due to ongoing search and rescue efforts.
- Safety Measures:
Mariners should be cautious and avoid unnecessary proximity to small or distressed vessels. It is crucial to report any suspicious activity or sightings of overcrowded or distressed vessels to local authorities.
- Humanitarian Assistance:
Ships transiting this area may be called upon for assistance in coordination with rescue operations. Ensure all personnel are briefed on humanitarian protocols and rescue operations.
Sanborn Analytics emphasizes the importance of ongoing coordination with regional maritime security forces and humanitarian organizations to assist in search and rescue operations while maintaining the security of vessels.

Piracy-related incidents continued to threaten ships transiting the Indian Ocean and the Somali basin during May with at least four Pirate Action Groups reported to be active in the region. Elsewhere the number of Houthi attacks rose slightly but the number of ships impacted by aerial weapons dropped. Human migration increased in the Mediterranean, particularly in the Aegean Sea off the coast of Turkey, where large numbers of migrants were rescued. An Open Letter to Mr. Manzoor Pashteen, Leader of the Pashtun Tahafuz Movement
On behalf of the Fajristan Regional Integration Movement, we are pleased to share an open letter addressed to Mr. Manzoor Pashteen, leader of the #Pashtun_Tahafuz_Movement (#PTM). The letter, which has already been sent to Mr. Pashteen, expresses our strong support for the Pashtun Jirga’s call for free movement across the #Durand_Line without the need for visas or passports.
The Fajristan Plan offers a peaceful, practical solution to this longstanding issue, structured into four key stages:
1. Political Agreement: Afghanistan and Pakistan formally #recognize_the_Durand_Line and commit to removing border barriers.
2. #Joint_Security: Joint security forces ensure stability and cooperation along the border.
3. #Border_Reopening: Free movement across the border is allowed, eliminating the need for passports or visas, fostering deeper social and economic connections.
4. Joint Development Projects: Collaborative economic and cultural initiatives are launched to strengthen both sides of the border, promoting long-term growth and stability.

#PIA#airhostess caught with 140,000 #Saudi#Riyal cash in her socks at #Lahore#airport
Recent incidents, including the arrest of a PIA Air Hostess for attempting to transport undeclared funds, highlight the persistent issue of smuggling in Pakistan. This remind us the high-profile case of a model caught transferring large sums of dollars to Dubai in 2016 which raised eyebrows about the extent of foreign currency smuggling in the country. Despite efforts by Special Investment Facilitation Council (#SIFC), #Pakistan#Army, and #StateBankofPakistan (#SBP) to promote legitimate business activities and curb illicit financial flows, smuggling continues to undermine these initiatives.
The acute shortage of dollars, exacerbated by the illegal #Hundi system and declining #exports, is a stark reminder of the devastating impact of #smuggling. It's time to acknowledge that these efforts will be in vain if smuggling continues unchecked.
We need to investigate and identify the masterminds behind these smuggling operations. Who are the real culprits? What networks are they using? Only by uncovering the truth can we hope to stem the tide of smuggling and ensure that our efforts to promote integrity and accountability are not in vain.

Singapore needs to take a leadership role fearing further escalation at the Thai Myanmar border.
To start with, let's appreciate the math. Singapore has 285000 domestic workers aka amahs, aka helpers aka nannies aka domestic help at 1 time.
Thailand is expecting another 100,000 Burmese crossing the Myawaddy/Mae Sot border in the very near future. (month or 2)
The numbers don't lie and the biggest buyers of condominiums by numbers in Thailand of the last 90 day's have been Burmese.
I believe Singapore's MFA have been asleep at the wheel. This was the chance to show leadership in
/ peacekeeping
/ negotiations
/ refugee management
/ border control
/ immigration management
/ and finally taking in 5000 Burmese refugees aged between 21 and 26 who we nurture and train into our elderlycare faculties.
Leadership in Asia for Singapore, possibly the most affluent country south of the equator, means taking positions that have positive humanitarian consequences. The junta in Burma will continue their civil war with the Shans, Karen's, the Karenni, Bamar, Akha, Chin, Rohingya, Lautu, Moken and generally apart from the border of India, Thailand, Bangladesh, most other neighbouring States nearby, namely Vientam , Laos , And a little further Malaysia and Singapore are oblivious to certain realities.
Too much Burmese money has been placed in Singapore banks of the last 30 years. And government is wary of the sensitive relationship with Naypyidaw. But for how long can we tolerate suppression of the masses. I believe Singapore has to lead to sanction Myanmar in many ways.
This boy is not crying wolf falsely. There are aplenty of wolves in this vicinity. Pack of wolves milking this regime of its resources. I believe we will see a tumultuous Myanmar in the next 5 years and we need to step up, if only on humanitarian grounds.
Leadership means sacrifice. Will Singapore call a spade a spade when it comes to the atrocities of the Naypyidaw. At lease let's get the facts in our hand. We need a 2 x 120 man peacekeeping force each from the SAF in Tachilek and Myawaddy to help keep the peace. If we don't, who will.
On April 8, 2022, the Democratic Republic of Congo officially acceded to the East African Community (EAC) Treaty, marking a significant step towards fostering economic collaboration and development in the region. The subsequent full membership on July 11, 2022, has paved the way for transformative initiatives and partnerships.
This week (26th Feb to 1st March 2024), I have been privileged to be one of the participants in a critical capacity-building program titled "Mainstreaming the Democratic Republic of Congo into the EAC; Training on EAC Integration & OSBP" at Mahagi, DRC. The program which has brought together officials from both Uganda and the DRC was organized by the EAC Secretariat under the auspices of TradeMark Africa.
The training's focal points include coordinated border management, One Stop Border Post (OSBP) framework, and the intricacies of the Single Customs Territory. Witnessing the enthusiasm with which the DRC is embracing this change has been truly inspiring. The commitment to learning and adapting to these new processes signifies a positive trajectory towards seamless integration.
The collaboration and knowledge exchange between the partnering nations exemplify the spirit of unity and shared progress within the EAC. As we work towards the full realization of integration, we anticipate witnessing a remarkable transformation in the economic landscape of the DRC. This journey signifies not just the growth of a nation but the collective growth of the entire East African Community.
Let us celebrate the positive strides made by the DRC and look forward to a future of increased collaboration, shared prosperity, and strengthened regional ties within the East African Community. Together, we are building a more integrated and resilient Africa. #EACIntegration#RegionalCollaboration#EastAfricanCommunity
