#NDBCBM2024 Day 2, Session II: Invasion, phagocytosis The afternoon session began with a Memorial in honor of Uli Theopold, delivered by Dan Hultmark of Umeå University Sweden. Ulrich (Uli) Theopold (1957-2023) - a luminary in the world of innate immunity, left an indelible mark on the field. Then Dr Hultmark delivered his scientific talk titled "Horizontal transfer as a source of novelty in evolution – hemolysin E in blood cells". A round of Q&A followed. Next, Neal Silverman from UMass Chan Medical School delivered his academic talk titled "Role of Hemocyte Lipid Droplets in immunity", igniting an intriguing Q&A among the audience. Before the tea break, Shubha Govind of The City College of New York delivered spoke about "The one and many toxins of fruit fly blood cells", and interacted during Q&A The Poster Session began with hot tea and snacks, enabling in-depth discussion between the speakers, poster presenters, and participants. Lastly, Dr Utpal Banerjee from UCLA delivered the final lecture for the day, titled "A perspective of the blood field", igniting an intriguing Q&A among the audience. Department of Biotechnology

#NDBCBM2024 The New Directions in Blood Cell Biology Biennial Meeting Day 2, Session I: Specification and differentiation Continuing the session after a break, Dr Satish Khurana from Indian Institute of Science Education and Research, Thiruvananthapuram delivered his talk titled "Molecular regulation of adult hematopoiesis: developmental lessons to learn". Q&A with participants & audience followed. The last talk in the 'Specification and differentiation' session was by Angela Giangrande from IGBMC, France who delivered the talk titled "Macrophages: Cellular Sensors and Signaling Hubs". #NDBCBM2024 The New Directions in Blood Cell Biology Meeting Scientific Talks were kickstarted with a welcome address by the Director Prof Maneesha Inamdar. Session I - Specification and differentiation. It was enthralling to listen to the discoveries by Mirka Uhlirova from CECAD Cologne and Volker Hartenstein from UCLA around the session theme. Their talks were titled as below: Regulation of immune cell plasticity and tissue interaction -Uhlirova Structural aspects of uptake and digestion of apoptotic neurons in the Drosophila embryonic brain - Hartenstein This morning session also saw two student talks - first by Yashaswinee Rai of Jawaharlal Nehru Centre for Advanced Scientific Research (JNCASR) Inamdar Lab who spoke about "Wnt-regulated lipid droplet dynamics effect Drosophila blood progenitor heterogeneity through fatty acid metabolism" and second by Sakshi Jain from Indian Institute of Science (IISc) who spoke about "From Development to Defense: How LIM-only protein drives Myeloid cell development and function". The audience and speakers engaged in curious Q&A after the talks. Stay tuned for more!
