"In many countries, up to 1 in 5 new mothers experience a mood or anxiety disorder. Unfortunately, these conditions often go undiagnosed and untreated due to lack of awareness and stigma, and everyone pays the price. Today is World Maternal Mental Health Day, and it’s time to recognize the importance of maternal mental health. How can you tell that if you or a loved one may need help? What types of treatments are available? What can those who are pregnant or postpartum do, and how can the community around them help?" #maternalmentalhealth #maternalhealth #WorldMaternalMentalHealthDay https://lnkd.in/exK3nzWV

🌸 Join us in Shining a Light on Maternal Mental Health 🌸 At Wellview Counseling, we recognize the profound impact of Perinatal Mental Health Disorders (PMHDs) on new parents. Symptoms can include Depression, Anxiety, Obsessive Behaviors, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder and Perinatal Psychosis. Despite affecting an estimated 800,000 individuals each year, mental health remains a topic shrouded in mystery for many. But together, we can change that narrative. This May, we're proud to stand alongside the Postpartum Support International (PSI) in their #WeAre1in5 campaign. This initiative aims to break the silence surrounding PMHDs by amplifying the voices of survivors worldwide. We invite you to join us in sharing your story and contributing to this global conversation. By sharing diverse stories of struggle, hope, and recovery, we can assure every new mom that she is not alone. #WeAre1in5 #MaternalMentalHealthMonth #EndTheStigma #WellviewCounseling 🌟

Why is mental illness treated differently than physical illness? On World Mental Health Day, it’s important to reflect on this. As an ex-psychiatric nurse, I’ve seen how quick people are to sympathise with physical illnesses like cancer or heart disease, but hesitate to show the same support for mental health struggles. It’s shocking, especially in this day and age. Let’s break the stigma. Mental health deserves the same compassion as physical health. Do you agree? #WorldMentalHealthDay
