Happy International Women in Engineering Day everybody! Despite the progress made, engineering remains a male-dominated industry, with only 16.5% of engineers in the UK being female. INWED aims to provide a platform for female engineers, playing a crucial role in encouraging young women to pursue engineering. This year’s theme is #EnhancedByEngineering – profiling the best, brightest and bravest women in engineering, who have enhanced people’s everyday lives and are helping to build towards a brighter future. As we delve into the rich history of International Women in Engineering Day, lets remember the trailblazing women who have shaped the engineering world and continue to inspire the next generation of female engineers. By working together, we can work towards a more inclusive and diverse future in engineering, fostering an environment where women can thrive and contribute their unique talents to an ever evolving field that has the potential to change lives for the better. FSS – INTERNATIONAL WOMEN IN ENGINEERING DAY This notable global day celebrating the role of women in Engineering is organised by the Women’s Engineering Society (WES) and celebrate its 11th year this June. It’s designed to promote the amazing work that women engineers across the globe are doing. This got us thinking about our role in bringing women into our engineering business and a quick bit of research carried out by @ErinErin Barnet (thank you!) revealed results of which we are rather proud: ·        1/3 of employees are women – 11 out of 33. ·        One of our founding directors is a woman. ·        Jodie & Kay in CATS make up 50% of the technical team. ·        60% of our office team are women. ·        As a company we sponsor or support many female based organisations such as Bradford Bulls Women’s Team, Queensbury u16s/18s, and In With A Shot netball team. ·        Katharine Barnett represented Fuel Storage Solutions Limited and met the King last year, receiving the King’s Award for Enterprise. INWED gives women engineers around the world a profile when they are still hugely under-represented, so we are confident that we really do support the cause, recruiting and promoting more women into our company than the current stats appear to show. #INWED24 #Enhancedbyengineering #fuelstoragesolutions

IMechE are spotlighting the profound impact of women in engineering, both historically and in the present day, at our 'Celebrating and Championing Women Engineers' event on 5 March 2024! The event marks the 100th anniversary of Verena Holmes' election as the first woman member of the IMechE, celebrating her significant contributions to the profession. But not only are we unveiling the newly commissioned portrait of Verena Holmes, we're looking to host an exhibition to champion women engineers of the past, present and future, and this is where you come in! Today marks International Women in Engineering Day and as always we at FCC want to celebrate it by continuing to raise awareness within the industry. International Women in Engineering Day is run by the UK charity Women’s Engineering Society. This year’s theme is #Enhancedbyengineering and WES are celebrating the amazing work that women engineers around the world are doing to support lives and livelihoods every day. INWED gives women engineers around the world a profile when they are still hugely under-represented, with 2021 figures indicating that in the UK only 16.5% of engineers are women. As the only platform of its kind, it plays a vital role in encouraging more young women and girls to take up engineering careers. Breaking the Mould: The Importance of Women in Engineering 👷♀️ As we celebrate the achievements of women in engineering, it's essential to acknowledge the significant underrepresentation of women in this field. According to the UK's Engineering Council, in 2020, only 12.5% of the engineering workforce in the UK were female, compared to 45.2% in the overall workforce. Despite these numbers, women engineers are making a significant impact in the industry. They're driving innovation, solving complex problems, and pushing boundaries. But we need more of them. To highlight their achievements and inspire future generations, we launched our #ShesAnEngineer campaign. Join us as we share stories of trailblazing women engineers who have shattered stereotypes and overcome challenges to succeed in their careers. As a female who has spent her entire career working in engineering, this article from SUCCESS.com really resonated with me. Especially starting out, you can really feel like an outsider in a male dominated domain and treated as a bit of a commodity. How do women in engineering contribute to societal progress? Women in engineering have a profound impact on societal progress globally. Here’s my thoughts on how and why: 𝘿𝙞𝙫𝙚𝙧𝙨𝙚 𝙋𝙚𝙧𝙨𝙥𝙚𝙘𝙩𝙞𝙫𝙚𝙨 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙄𝙣𝙣𝙤𝙫𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣 Women bring unique perspectives to engineering teams, fostering creativity and innovative solutions. Different genders, different minds – together, we achieve extraordinary results! 𝙍𝙤𝙡𝙚 𝙈𝙤𝙙𝙚𝙡𝙨 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙈𝙚𝙣𝙩𝙤𝙧𝙨𝙝𝙞𝙥 Female engineers serve as inspiring role models and mentors, motivating more young women to pursue STEM careers. Our girls look up to us – let's lead for ourselves and their futures! 𝙀𝙘𝙤𝙣𝙤𝙢𝙞𝙘 𝙂𝙧𝙤𝙬𝙩𝙝 Increasing the number of women in engineering boosts economic growth by expanding the talent pool and enhancing productivity. Gender-diverse teams perform better financially – and who doesn't want that? 𝙀𝙣𝙘𝙤𝙪𝙧𝙖𝙜𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙄𝙣𝙘𝙡𝙪𝙨𝙞𝙫𝙚 𝘿𝙚𝙨𝙞𝙜𝙣 Women engineers often emphasise inclusive design, ensuring products, technologies, and buildings are accessible to people of diverse abilities and backgrounds. This leads to more equitable and user-friendly innovations, addressing a broader range of societal needs and challenges.
