The world has changed the circumstances/conditions have changed and now make this type of system viable, off site construction is the future due to quality issues, efficiency, sustainability, talented trades men scarce, programme constraints with insitu build, prelim savings (cranage scaffolding etc)

Optimising reused steel: 6-10 St Andrew Street Next up in our reused steel series is 6-10 St Andrew Street with Barr Gazetas for GPE, a refurbishment of a 1990s RC framed office building, with a 2-storey steel framed roof extension in the City of London. The procurement stage of 6-10 St Andrew Street coincided with the final development our HTS Stockmatcher, allowing it to be used as a trial project. In client meetings we demonstrated speculative match results (based on available stock at the time) that showed a high match percentage, resulting in a substantial reduction in embodied carbon. Expressing keen interest, GPE enthusiastically advocated for the integration of reused steel into the final design. The project started on site quickly, whilst the Stockmatcher allowed for the reservation steel elements in the stockyard with minimal delay. Using our Stockmatcher tool, we successfully matched 82% of the new steelwork with suitable reused elements. The project is currently underway, with the final steelwork elements being installed on site. Out of the 34 tonnes of steel used, an estimated 25 tonnes are anticipated to be from reused elements. My first mentor (after dad of course) was an incredibly smart and accomplished executive in the construction industry named Dan Spiegel. While Danny and I did not always see eye to eye, I always listened closely to his perspective. It either provided affirmation for my view or gave me pause.
