The Federation of Irish Sport collaborated with Dr Anne O’Brien and Maynooth University, with the support of Sport Ireland grant research funding on the research question ‘why journalists and media producers create gendered sports content in the ways that they do.’ Launched last month this work, entitled ‘Gender Equality in Media representation of Sport in Ireland’, explores the complexities and challenges of gender content creation in sports media. It is an important step in understanding the forces at play and envisioning a more inclusive and equitable future. It is a reminder that the fight for gender equality in sports is not just about advocating for women to be seen and heard; the key discoveries of the research are about shifting the broader cultural framework and understanding that everyone has their part to play if we are to tackle the challenges.

Double Standards in Sports We've often heard that politics has no place in sports. I was told to prepare my speech with a focus solely on sports, aligning with this policy. However, on the same stage, someone was allowed to say "Yalla Isr:el," while others were prevented from expressing their views on politics. If we truly care about keeping sports free from political influence, then let's apply the same standard to everyone. Ban all political statements, no exceptions. Sports should unite us, not divide us through selective enforcement. Let’s ensure fairness and consistency no double standards in sports. #sport #politics #nodoublestandard

This article discusses the phenomenon of sportswashing and argues that while there should be some international attempt to determine which countries get sporting megaevents (and to make them adhere to the universal principles of human rights), the existing push to move sporting events from the western to the non-western world should also be encouraged to create a truly inclusive international system. https://lnkd.in/gUsF4GDS
