The International Budget Partnership (IBP) launched the Open Budget Survey (OBS) 2023 Report; covering 125 countries; including Egypt. OBS is the world’s only independent, comparative, and fact-based research instrument that evaluates the three key components of accountability and openness in fiscal budgeting; primarily public access to State budget information (transparency), public participation in the budget process, and the role of budget oversight institutions. The publication of budget information is a fundamental component of open budgets. FSVC has been working with the Ministry of Economy and Finance (MEF) of Panama to publish several key budget documents to enhance transparency in the budget process. This week, the MEF published Panama’s first ever Year-End Report (YER) for 2022. The YER describes the government’s accounts at the end of the fiscal year and evaluates progress made towards achieving the budget’s policy goals. This YER was developed with FSVC’s technical assistance, and its publication is an important step in enhancing budget transparency and accountability in Panama.
