An insightful read from Ryan Browne of CNBC International on CleverCards raising a further €8m to “give companies control over how their employees use corporate cards”. How does CleverCards deliver this control over spend? With virtual cards (VCCs) of course. VCCs are ‘programmable’ so employers can: · Send a virtual card to an employee with a specific line of credit · Specify the category of merchant where the card can be used (and not used) · Track transactions in real-time and include an approval from the company These capabilities make VCCs ideal for controlling spend whilst still allowing employees to pay with the company’s money, rather than their own. VCCs were first pioneered in travel, an achievement our industry should be very proud of. At Outpayce from Amadeus, we help travel sellers pay-out with VCCs but there are many use cases in travel. Why couldn’t an airline send a VCC to a disrupted traveller’s mobile to pay for a hotel? There’s much more to come from VCCs.
