pathology/medicine/radiology educator

decided [on the fly this afternoon] to add a short exercise/activity to this evening's presentation to the local dental society printed copies of radiographs and CBCT images from several interesting cases I've had over the years and set them on the tables, and after dinner I started the presentation with some basic questions to the audience based on the case number that each table had; the interactions were lively, and though some of the cases and pathologies reviewed were unfamiliar, I was able to create a safe learning space and was told afterward that people enjoyed the exercise and did not feel stressed about whether or not they knew the answers or not [and in fact several people asked if they could have copies of those cases for study, since the feedback I received was that they had seen much of this multiple times in their clinical practices] the next thing I did change was to my pacing and emphasis so that I was able to speak for about 30 minutes, then allow for a five minute stretch break, then speak for about another 30 minutes, and complete the entire presentation in an hour and 30 minutes [against the 1:15 that I had planned] and still found that the audience [about 30 people, both dentists and hygienists] was engaged and that several people stayed around for about another 30 minutes to ask additional questions, share cases, and ask me for my thoughts on management of abnormalities they've discovered on their own radiographs one of my goals when speaking to these groups is not to simply lecture, but to create something of an experience, and based on the feedback people gave me immediately afterwards, I feel as if I hit my marks #dentistry #radiology #oralpathology #diagnosis

Did you need to cover some cbct anatomy or did you feel it was clear to the audience?

Sounds like a very effective learning experience. Great job applying learning principles and having the courage to apply them— reading your description of their engagement, I agree that you hit your marks!
