✨Ode to Improvisation: the Heartbeat of ImproLANDS✨ At the core of #ImproLANDS, our Creative Europe project, lies the dynamic art of improvisation theatre🎭 —an expression of spontaneity, collaboration, and connection. Through improvisation, we’re breathing life into Europe’s often-overlooked regions - remote areas, isolated places, and regions impacted by natural disasters. But why #improvisation❓ Because it’s an art form that speaks directly to the heart of #communities, offering a platform for unheard voices, untold stories, and shared experiences. With no scripts, rehearsals, or safety nets, improvisation theatre is raw, real, and entirely shaped by the moment - it’s the ultimate expression of #creativity. ✅For the artists we work with, it’s a space to experiment, learn, and grow. ✅For the communities we reach, it’s a way to engage in meaningful cultural exchanges and foster resilience in the face of adversity. At ImproLANDS, we believe in the transformative power of improvisation theatre to connect, inspire, and empower. Whether you’re an artist, a community member, or a lover of the arts, follow us on this journey as we use creativity to bring isolated places and vulnerable communities back into the cultural conversation 🌍🎭. This is more than theatre. This is ImproLANDS. 🎥 @Mario D'Ingianna #ArtForChange #CulturalResilience #CreativeEurope #ImprovTheatre #CommunityEmpowerment Accademia56 Las cosas que hacemos Impro Impar Emanuela Del Savio EUROPE DIRECT Unione Montana Marca di Camerino

International Public & Political Communication (MA) student seeking placement opportunities and experience. Interested in Political Science, Journalism, & Public Service
Local theatres, whether still used for performances or for alternative purposes, are crucial to the local community, helping to foster young & emerging talent, provide a home for theatre performers and audiences alike, and also simply for their historical significance in their areas. With one of Sheffield's venues, currently used by local organisation Creative Arts Development Space, named in Theatres Trust's 2024 Theatres at Risk register, it is more apparent than ever how many small local venues are continuously faced with the risk of closure. It is hugely important to support local venues at all levels, including with community groups, activists and most crucially, local authorities & politicians. I recently wrote about the affected venue, Sheffield's Abbeydale Picture House, in my capacity as Arts & Theatre Editor for Forge Press in hopes of raising awareness of this venue & its high-risk status, as well as contacting local councillors & the Member of Parliament for the area, in hopes of working towards a solution to ensure the protection of this building. The Paradox of Promoting Western Sydney's Orchestral Talent: A Journey to the City for Concerts As a professional dedicated to fostering orchestral training opportunities and promoting orchestral concerts in Western Sydney with West Phil, I find myself in a paradoxical situation. Despite the rich cultural tapestry and immense talent in Western Sydney, I am compelled to journey to the city to stage concerts. This scenario, while a logistical necessity, points to a larger issue - the absence of a venue that adequately represents and serves the diverse and vibrant community of Western Sydney. One can’t necessarily begrudge plans underway for a 1350-1400 seat lyric theatre at the Riverside Theatre, which can “support Parramatta’s aspiration and trajectory to becoming a great global and cultural city…” and “sets a number of ambitious goals for its future, including providing flexible performance spaces, offering an expanded artistic program for a diverse community; and crafting an iconic and distinctive architectural landmark for Western Sydney.” However, there remains a glaring gap. Western Sydney, home to over 2.5 million people and representing the geographical heart of a much larger “Sydney”, lacks an acoustically suitable and available venue for a concert grand piano to perform alongside a full-size symphony orchestra. The irony is palpable - the region pulsates with musical potential and audience enthusiasm but its talents are often showcased in venues far removed from their local roots. The need is clear. We require a space not just for the local populace but for the entire city, a venue that is not beholden to the needs of slot machines (yes… I said it, and to be sure I’m not referring to the Riverside!) but in the interests of cultural and artistic enrichment. This need is not merely about physical space; it is about respecting and nurturing the artistic soul of Western Sydney. It's about creating a venue where local talents can perform in their community, for their community. As we appreciate and look forward to the development of the Riverside, let us also advocate for a venue that meets the specific needs of orchestral performances. Might sound like an odd plea when institutions in Australia associated with “high art” attract the lion’s share of an already diminutive pool of arts funding. However, traditional Western forms of music and music-making are not only the preserve of the Sydney “East”. I find it hard to overlook the sight of so many music cases – violins, flutes, cellos, guitars etc. – being lugged by legions of children traipsing to and from their schools and music lessons just west of the “Latte Line” each weekday. #WesternSydney #CulturalDevelopment #SymphonyOrchestra #MusicEducation Sydney Eisteddfod Music Teachers' Association of NSW Western Sydney University Western Sydney Leadership Dialogue

Forget local authority, government or agency funding. These are either unavailable or not sustainable and can kill creativity when working within their specific guidelines. Instead, research what the local demographic want or need and provide it. Think of ways that you can entice an audience or participation within different localities and cultures. Be brave, do it alone or with like minded colleagues. Involve yourself in local festivals, fetes, fairs or the like. Hire local halls or theatres. Involve youth clubs and/or schools. Show people what you offer and educate about the impact of the arts on wellbeing and social inclusion.
"In 10 years’ time we’re going to turn around and say ‘where are all the artists, where are all the stories, where are all the good ideas?’" David Byrne, artistic director of the Royal Court Theatre, has called for a “rescue package” to keep young people in the arts. https://lnkd.in/dwfxgrth

Global Appeal to Musicians: Make a Difference Again! In times of crisis, music has always been a powerful force for change. Remember Live Aid and “We Are the World”? These events not only united musicians from around the globe but also mobilized millions and brought hope and aid to those in need. Today, we face new crises with suffering and pain being ignored in Ukraine and Palestine. It’s time to remember the transformative power of our art and unite once more. Let’s raise the voices and instruments to demand action and justice. Music can be a beacon of hope and an irresistible force for change. If every artist joins this cause, we can create a wave of solidarity that cannot be ignored. Share this message, use your talent to inspire and mobilize. Let’s show that when music comes together for a common purpose, it can truly make a difference. We are united in this fight. Let’s use the power of music to turn lament into action and indifference into hope. #musicforpeace #UnitedByMusic

A key resource to understand the ongoing challenges to artistic freedom, Freemuse's annual report is such an important read! It covers all regions, but their focus on the impacts of conflict and violence on artists and cultural spaces in #Gaza and #Sudan is harrowing. As always, you can count on Cecilia Noce to give such an important overview on this issue for #LatinAmerica.
