The auto repair sector is very competitive, requiring the business to track specific metrics for it to grow. With significant operating costs and increasing competition, it’s even more relevant than ever for auto repair owners to measure and track certain KPIs to maximize growth and profits. the Fifth one of top 10 KPIs auto repair business is: 5. Revenue per technician Revenue per technician is a KPI that evaluates the amount fo revenue each technician is generating on average. It’s important to note that there may be variations when calculating this KPI, as sometimes revenue may include other streams than labor hours (for example car dealership sales, car rental sales, etc.). If so, we recommend you only use labor sales when calculating this KPI. This will give you a better view on how much a technician actually generates (whilst excluding other sources of income and potential variations). Revenue per technician = Total revenue / # Number of technicians For instance, if the business earns a LE50,000 turnover over a month from repairs and employs 5 technicians, then: Revenue per technician = LE50,000 / 5 = LE10,000 In other words, each technician generates LE10,000 in revenue per month.

⁉️ What takes priority, warranty or customer pay repair orders? 🤔 Depends on who you ask. For many technicians on flat rate, I could see the argument for customer pay. Same repairs, more pay. For many service advisors, I could see an argument for simply the oldest repair order. It’s never fun to keep a customer waiting to have their vehicle back. For the consumer, well it’s always going to be their vehicle first right? 😅 But really, if I bought a new car and brought it in for a warranty concern, I’d be upset if another customer was prioritized over me because their repair made the service department more money. I did buy this car from the dealership new after all, and had an appointment, and was here before that customer pay vehicle. Tough topic. You’ll hear what I experienced in the video below. Warranty pays less, but do we punish the consumer over this? If we don’t are we then punishing technicians? ✅ I like to keep it simple, prioritize repairs orders generally oldest to newest. Emergencies will happen, parts will take longer, some customers will be walk ins, but overall let’s handle these vehicles as best as we can in the order they came in the door. —— I’m Chris Craig. California new car dealers are currently experiencing a severe shortage of technicians, needing an average of four additional techs per dealership. With 120+ dealerships located within San Diego County, there are plenty of opportunities for techs to begin rewarding, long-term careers. Automotive technicians at new car dealerships work in an exciting field using cutting edge technology and equipment. Technicians spend their days working hands on solving engaging automobile problems. The majority of automotive technicians attend 2 year community colleges instead of 4 year institutions, saving both time and money. Dealers rank willingness to work hard as one of the most desirable qualities in a new tech hire, and 53% of these entry-level jobs require no certifications. The average entry-level salary for California New Car Dealership Technicians is $43,000, while the average salary for all techs is $73,000. Median salaries continue to rise year after year, and top-tier techs earn an average of $140,130 in compensation. A career as a service technician in California not only pays well but comes with job security and satisfaction. 85% of entry tech respondents indicated that they would recommend the career to a family member or friend. The number one benefit listed by entry-level techs is advancement opportunities, showing that these jobs offer career growth at an accelerated pace.
