Respected HR managers, In a recent recruitment experience, I encountered a situation worth sharing. An HR manager, brought in from outside the company, aimed to unearth talent but ended up creating a humiliating atmosphere. Despite advising against disrespect, the individual persisted, claiming candidates should be better prepared next time. Taking a stand, I halted the interview process and replaced the manager. Moving forward, I do not endorse this individual for recruitment roles. This incident underscores the importance of thorough research when outsourcing recruiters. It's crucial to prioritize respect for all candidates, invest time in hiring decisions, and nurture valuable relationships within the HR community. By leveraging contacts and offering support when needed, successful outcomes can be achieved. #HR #Recruitment #CandidateExperience #Professionalism

Two key things I like to check when scoping out new clients... 💡 Is the People function valued? 💡 Do HR have a seat at the top table? From working in house and experiencing being in teams where these things have and haven't happened, I truly understand the importance of it. So, if the answer to these questions is anything short of "ABSOLUTELY" (or “we actually don’t have a People function yet”) ... the HR professional in me is ready to run a mile. I LOVE being a Recruiter, but there will always be a big HR shaped heart inside me. So if you’re working with me as a candidate, you can trust I have ALWAYS done the digging on these things, because they truly matter to me too. Who's with me? 💁♀️ #peopleandtalent #newclients #recruitment

Owner, East Side Staffing: HR Recruiter specializing in the placement of experienced HR/People/ Talent Professionals
Peers of mine in external recruitment often say the following to me, when they learn that HR recruitment is (and has been for the last 17 years) my sole recruitment specialty: "Wow. Really? We have found HR Pros to be the worst hiring managers. They don't want feedback. They think they know it all. They don't follow a process and feel above it. They don't ask us questions or seek our insights. There is a stubbornness and inability to receive help that makes the process that much harder. We would never choose that specialty." Eek. I know. Hard to hear. For me too. But, if we're all really honest and self-reflective, they're not completely wrong. HR Pros are often the ones GIVING help, advice, insight and expertise and seldom the ones to receive it. Therefore, it's a skill to practice and they're not always so comfortable with it! Perhaps I love a good challenge, but I am grateful for the HR Pros I choose to partner with; they enter our dynamic ready and willing to receive my help. They come into the partnership values-led, willing to learn ways to hire better, curious about my expertise and eager to seek my advice. I feel it's a gift to help those who rarely receive help themselves. It's my honor. So, thank you to the HR Pros who make it easy by not being the aforementioned stereotype! Maybe that was you at one point in time. But, you've grown. The whole profession has. I see how far HR has come and believe that stereotype will eventually be behind us... Keep letting the help in. Let yourself receive. Let it be easy. You are so deserving and worth it, HR Community. It is my honor to help you. #HRCommunity #LearnWithLauraHR

🤔 HR’s Big Dilemma: To Hire From Within or Beyond? 🌟 Should you promote from within or look externally for fresh talent? It's a question that many HR professionals face, and there's no one-size-fits-all answer. In the realm of Human Resources, the process of sourcing new talent is a multifaceted endeavour. Among the various recruitment channels employed, one prevalent practice is the referral of acquaintances or individuals known to those within the HR community. There are many organizations which solely rely on the traditional approach of sourcing candidates via references. This approach, while rooted in the desire for familiarity and trust, comes with its own set of pros and cons, and its implications on recruitment dynamics Promoting from within can boost morale, reward loyalty and maintain institutional knowledge. It fosters a culture of growth and development, giving employees opportunities for advancement. However, bringing in talent from outside can inject new perspectives, fresh ideas and specialized skills into the organization. It can prevent stagnation, infuse innovation, and fill skill gaps. What's your take on this perennial dilemma? Do you lean towards nurturing talent from within, or do you advocate for casting a wider net externally?
