🌍 What is happening with the Syschemiq project?! 🌿 As part of an EU-funded project, we're tackling one of the biggest challenges in sorting and #recycling: mixed material plastic packaging. Our goal? To develop monomaterial flexible plastics with high barrier properties, which could potentially revolutionize the recycling process compared to traditional multilayer plastics. 🔄 The focus is on creating packaging solutions that are not only innovative but also sustainable, considering the entire lifecycle and its environmental impact. A key part of our project involves understanding consumer behaviour, especially how you interact with everyday items like yoghurt cups. 🥄 Currently, yoghurt cups usually have a convenient aluminum lid, but did you know that if it's not fully removed, it can complicate the sorting and recycling process? We're exploring the possibility of switching to plastic lids that are easier to recycle but want to ensure they meet your needs for convenience and functionality. 🤔 We'd love to hear from you! Another fantastic read about Sustainability in the events sector by StandOut Magazine (Stand Out Live Events Magazine) The one phrase that stuck out to me was "Small measures but big impact." It resonated deeply with me as we often think that to make a difference, we need to make grand, sweeping changes. However, the reality is that it's the small, incremental steps that truly add up to create significant change. Whether it's reducing single-use plastics, opting for eco-friendly materials, or implementing energy-saving practices, each small measure contributes to a larger, positive impact. At Green Events Company we are constantly introducing a multitude of small changes when and where possible. We know there is still much work to be done but taking a proactive approach to the matter is extremely important to us and is a key factor in the strategic development of the company. It might take a little bit of 'thinking outside of the box' but we like a challenge! To all professionals in the events sector, let's embrace this philosophy. Let's explore innovative ways to integrate sustainability into every aspect of event planning and execution. This is an interesting piece in the FT. Rightly calls out that today's sustainability efforts are discretionary efforts of certain leaders in corporations to drive towards sustainability. Eg. Paul Polman with Unilever. However, it is evident that many of the current efforts are not yielding the results. and you are seeing U turns or significant pull backs from previous commitments. So, this article extolls the idea that we must reshape markets, rather than just companies. It argues that companies should go beyond setting targets and start lobbying for sweeping, long term rules that reshape entire markets. Shaping regulation could be key. the article points out to government regulation requiring the shift from incandescent lights to energy efficient lights as an example. Progress ?
