🏠⚒️California Governor Suspends CEQA and the Coastal Act for Rebuilding Fire-Ravaged Areas In his latest article, Phillip Babich discusses California Governor Gavin Newsom's executive order, issued on January 12, 2025, which suspends CEQA and the Coastal Act to expedite rebuilding efforts in areas affected by Southern California wildfires. This accelerates approval for damaged homes and businesses and allows property owners to transfer base year values to rebuilt properties for potential tax savings. While the order aims to speed up reconstruction, it may clash with a recent court ruling requiring fire risk and evacuation analysis for such projects. #CaliforniaWildfires #CEQA #Rebuilding #RealEstate 👇 Read the full article below. https://lnkd.in/eZFbybJp

Delighted with another Planning Appeal victory. This is one of many cases where Salmon Planning have challenged a Local Planning Authority decision and succeeded in winning the argument at Appeal. This case is significant as it has unlocked a development site in a beautiful historic landscape location where development would not normally be permitted. In this blog from Public Policy Institute of California, Sarah Bardeen and Karen Cowan, executive director of CASQA, discuss the challenges of stormwater in California. “Unmanaged stormwater can be a flood hazard and a contaminant. But when it’s properly managed, stormwater actually can benefit communities, creating green spaces and recharging aquifers.” “We advocate for stormwater policies, regulations, legislation, and solutions that are based on the latest science. We emphasize stormwater capture—putting water in the ground.”

Gov. Newsom issued an executive order over the weekend to exempt some CEQA and Coastal Commission regulations for rebuild projects. Similar relief is expected to come from the local agencies, but no announcement yet. It is important to note that the relief from CEQA and CCC regulations only applies to projects in which the property owner wants to rebuild within 10% of the previously permitted structure(s). For example, a 3,000-sf residence will be exempt from CCC requirements only if the rebuild is 3,300-sf or less. There are similar height and building footprint limitations as well. https://lnkd.in/gbjKZE8V
