Introducing our most recent guest to the Healthcare Rebel Alliance series: Clifford Porter, founder of Texas Direct Medical Care. As Nick Soman shared, Dr. Porter is a true healthcare pioneer. After serving as an Army doctor, he went on to earn a PhD in European history and political philosophy, bringing a unique interdisciplinary perspective to medicine. In his own words, he "left his studies under Socrates to go work for Hippocrates." Now, as the founder of a thriving Direct Primary Care (DPC) practice, Dr. Porter is redefining what it means to put patients first. As he explains, "Most clinics are managed to focus on billing and volume, [but] our first concerns are medical rather than financial. Since DPC is paid on membership, we can simply practice medicine. The DPC model takes money out of the exam room and no longer interferes with the patient-physician relationship. Practicing medicine in the DPC model is fun; I take care of my friends every day."
