We're halfway through participating in the 2024 NOMV Race Around the World! It's been amazing to see our 751 of our team members around the globe supporting the race's goal of involving, engaging, and energising a movement to elevate wellness in veterinary medicine. Participants have been engaging in activities such as walking, hiking, running, biking, horseback riding, and playing sports, all of which has added up to Team Dechra making great progress so far. We are proud to continue supporting NOMV in unique and impactful ways, including as a Race Around the World sponsor. Keep it up for the next two weeks, Team Dechra! #RATW24 #DechraTeam #NotOneMoreVet #NOMV #TheVeterinaryPerspective

At ESMP, we are excited to pursue research that helps us improve our understanding of equine athletes - what is important to their health and performance and how we can detect issues early on and prevent injury. We have pioneered the use of connected technology in the field to gain valuable insight into how our horses respond to work, how to support their performance. We are proud to have participated to this newly published study with Charlotte Schrurs, David Gardner, Guillaume Dubois ARIONEO and Ciaron Maher Racing We reviewed data collected from fitness trackers worn by 485 racehorses across 4837 training sessions, exploring whether specific training metrics could predict a horse's likelihood of winning races. Colts and horses trained for longer distances, known as stayers, were found to have a higher likelihood of race success. Speed over the last 600 meters during training was a significant predictor of race performance and horses displaying a faster heart rate recovery in the early post-exercise phase also had a greater chance of winning The integration of physiological training data with traditional experience will lead to better outcomes for horses, trainers, and owners by improving the identification of horses that are likely to be fit and perform well in races. 📷 Wilhelm Westergren #EquineHealth #Horse #VeterinaryCare #sport #equestriansport #performance #peakperformance #HorseHealth #EquineCare #ilovehorses #equineperformance #horseracing #jumping #veterinarymedicine #equinevet #equineinternalmedicine #equinesportsmedicine #equestrian #equine #showjumping #eventing #dressage #endurance #racehorse #proudhorsevet Altano Group

Three dogs died this week racing in the Iditarod and none of them signed up for the 1,000-mile race through the frozen tundra in Alaska. They were forced to race. Five more dogs died and 8 dogs were injured during pre-race training. None of those dogs were given a choice. They were forced to drag a sled 1,000 miles over two mountain ranges in arctic conditions. As athletes, we sign up for the intense training and competition. We know and accept the risk that pain, injuries and perhaps even death are possible. But these canine athletes are given no choice and they get hurt and killed. If 3 men died during Iditarod this week and 5 men died in training, the race would never be held again. Dogs, horses, rabbits, turtles, camels, kangaroos and other animals are forced to be athletes. It’s not sport. It’s cruelty and abuse. It’s time that athletes unite to take a stand for animal athletes. That’s why this week, I submitted a proposal to form a team of athletes to raise awareness and speak up for animal athletes. Message me if you’re interested in getting involved in this team effort to protect animals from pain, suffering and death in the name of “sports.” #veganhockeyplayer #iditarod #dogs #athletes #athlete #animalrights #animalprotection #animalabuse #animalcruelty #inhumane #animals #alaska #sports #race #racing #team #hockey #stanleycup

⭐️Monday Evening Equine Education⭐️ Another super evening lunging /long reining. “The Art of Lunging” Like lunging, long-reining is a great way to exercise your horse if you're unable to ride for any reason or you're bringing your horse back into work. The main benefit of long-reining over lunging is that you can work your horse in a straight line, plus you can see how your horse moves from behind and from the ground. Long reining is also good for any type young /old horses too. Some people long rein to give there horse something different to think about, some people use it to work on improving the horses way of going. If horses are struggling with something under saddle, sometimes it can be really helpful to remove the rider and work on it from the ground, long reining is perfect for this. #equineeducation #equinelongreining #equinelunging #equinebalance
