Each skincare product, whether a firming facial serum or a natural face moisturizer, is formulated with specific ingredients that need time to absorb and interact with the skin. Layering products too quickly can cause them to sit on top of each other, reducing absorption and effectiveness. Moreover, certain potent ingredients can cause irritation or adverse reactions when not given enough time to settle. General guidelines for application (1) Use a gentle cleanser to start your skincare routine with a clean slate. This step doesn't require a waiting period before moving on to toning. (2) After cleansing, apply a skin-toning lotion. It preps the skin by balancing pH levels, making it more receptive to products that follow. Wait 30 seconds to a minute or until the toner feels dry to the touch. (3) High-concentration anti-aging products or serums should be given ample time to absorb. Wait about 1-2 minutes before proceeding. This will allow active ingredients to penetrate deeply without interference. (4) Moisturizers and oils. Following serums, apply a natural moisturizer for dry skin. If you're layering an oil over a water-based moisturizer, allow the moisturizer to absorb fully—typically around 2-3 minutes. Apply oils last to seal in moisture and active ingredients. (5) Sun protection. Sunscreen is crucial in skincare, particularly when using active ingredients that may increase sun sensitivity. I thoroughly enjoy integrating pure essential oils into both my skincare routine and self-care practices.
