Recruiter and HM bias? Cannot tell you how many times during my transition I heard civilian Recruiters and Hiring Managers say, "They do not have experience in the ______ industry". What civilian recruiters and HMs fail to realize is that the #DoD is a 1% shred out of the entire US population, to include many of the careers out there. We have: -Sales -Project Managers -Supply Chain -IT -Cyber Security -Business Intel -HR -Data Science -Analytics -Finance -Skilled Trades -Marketing... ...and the list goes on. Just because they did not perform at a civilian business does not mean they do not have the SKILLS to be successful. the Department of Defense is one of the largest employers in the United States. In the Air Force alone we had 2.5K recruiters compared to my current employer's couple hundred, for example. AFRS has roughly 28 squadrons, each the same size as my current orgs entire recruiting team. Now imagine the scope of responsibility a senior enlisted advisor, flight chief, or commander had to run those teams. HMs & recruiters, Get out of your own head and really take a look at the skills they bring vs what role they were previously in. If you cannot decipher, grab a veteran on your team to help you understand their previous positions and the skills it took for them to perform that role. Some of the previous assignments automatically entail many skills that they may not necessarily put to paper. Military veterans are some of the most adaptable employees you can find. We are accustomed to moving units and jobs every 15-24 months without any previous experience. We are accustomed to the do more with less scenarios. Our leaders know how to research and document as well as leverage their teams to exceed standards. I also see HMs that have no intention or expectation to develop a hire. They want a cookie cutter resume that says what they want and are only willing to invest minimal development (OJT) even though the candidate is a rockstar from a different career field. You do not get employee loyalty and high retention by providing the bare minimum to your hires, veteran or not. Talents still need to meet the BQs, but it is the PQs where many of the Bias creeps in and filters our vets out. Put your bias to the side and #HireAVet !

Attracting and overseeing talent requires a considerable investment of both time and resources. To avoid wasting funds on an improper hire, perform a comprehensive background check covering all aspects mentioned on the resume, including education and work experience. #HiringProcess #HiringSolutions #BackgroundCheck #BackgroundVerification #ScreeningChallenges

Military Transition Tips Tuesday! 😎 🤘 👉 Sending messages to Recruiters..... without reading their profile. There are a LOT of Recruiters who not only put their links but even put the positions they are recruiting for on their page to make it easier for you. As you can see on mine, it puts the location, link, remote or not, program, and clearance or not. That way you have all the goods before reaching out. ✅ For the Love of Greenacres..... Read the Profile before sending a message. 👨🌾 👉 I get a regular of 3+ messages a day asking one of the following 🛑 What positions I am hiring for 🛑 What positions I have that they can fit into 🛑 Are my positions remote 🛑 Where are the positions located 👉 Let's make sure you are sending the messages that will get a response from Recruiters. So, what do you put? ✅ Position ID applied to on the company website ✅ Top three skills that are relevant to the applied position ✅ Something positive about the company ✅ Keep it brief We want you to fill positions as much as you want to fill the position. Let's make sure we are communicating effectively with by using your attention to detail skills you got while serving 🙌 #militarytransition #hiring #recruiters #recruiting #veteranemployment #wegotthis #bethedifference

Last week brought a whirlwind of recruitment activity my way. I had 4 final interviews lined up with different clients, resulting in 2 progressing to offer stage. One offer is already signed, and the other is almost finalised. Unfortunately, the remaining two opportunities didn't move forward due to candidates falling short in the final meeting. Even though it's holiday season, there is still a ton of action happening in the job market right now. Most cyber security firms are running behind schedule on their hiring plans and want to meet candidates ASAP. Despite the urgency to fill roles, hiring managers are raising the bar higher than ever. Recent hiring mishaps during rushed recruitment phases during the hiring boom have left them cautious, determined not to repeat past errors. For job seekers, my advice is clear: Preparation for job interviews has never been more critical. To steer clear of disappointment in lengthy selection processes, ensure you are thoroughly primed for each opportunity. #CyberSales
