There are 27 Fatality Search and Recovery Teams in the Air National Guard around the nation. These 11-person teams provide a scarce capability to communities. It is sad that they are being used in North Carolina, but they stepped into a need. In December 1996, governments from around the world came together to address the horrible impacts of war on children and created the United Nations’ mandate for children and armed conflict. On the second day of our #RaiseYourRed campaign, we highlight key achievements of the mandate over more than 25 years and where we should continue to focus our efforts over the next 25. It was a moving moment this morning when seven representatives of the #RedCross and #RedCrescent Movement from all regions of the world presented a Solemn Appeal on War in Cities to the 34th International Conference #RCRC24 and to all States Parties to the #GenevaConventions. The Appeal reads, in part: ▶ We, therefore, solemnly appeal to all States party to the Geneva Conventions to uphold their obligation to respect and to ensure respect for #IHL in all circumstances. ▶ We further solemnly appeal to all States, as well as to non-State armed group parties to armed conflict, to: ✔ ensure, where fighting in urban areas cannot be avoided, that the #ProtectionofCivilians and civilian objects is identified as a strategic priority in military operations and implemented, including through full and rigorous compliance with IHL and effective civilian harm mitigation policies and practices; ✔ adopt and implement policies to avoid using explosive weapons with a wide impact area in populated areas #EWIPA owing to the significant likelihood of indiscriminate effects ✔ take all feasible #precautions to protect the civilian population and civilian objects in attack and against the effects of attacks, uphold the requirement for combatants to distinguish themselves from the civilian population and comply with the prohibition on the use of #HumanShields; ✔ respect and protect #MedicalPersonnel, facilities and transport, as well as Red Cross and Red Crescent personnel, volunteers and assets, and uphold the protective value of the #emblems; ✔ facilitate safe, rapid and #UnimpededAccess to areas of urban conflict for #impartial #HumanitarianOrganizations, #CivilDefence, #EssentialServices providers and essential supplies; As the Solemn Appeal concludes: ▶ Every one of us may, one day, have family hiding in a basement, a neighbour caught in crossfire or a friend unable to receive critical medical treatment. It is already a reality for millions of people, and together we can make a difference. Let us be guided by our common humanity and take urgent and effective action to alleviate the plight of civilians affected by urban conflicts. According to national statistics, veterans are identified as a vulnerable population for suicide. It is concerning to see this story in the news today. In light of recent events, it is important for Delta to consider transparency by publishing the dress code policy that they are imposing on paying clients. Moreover, defining threatening language objectively is crucial to avoid ambiguity and ensure that it is not subjected to individual interpretation.
