While I absolutely agree that staffing and strong financial management are imperative for maintaining operational stability as acuity increases in #assistedliving#seniorliving, I recommend we also consider how service delivery workflows must also adjust. What we do to meet the modern needs of #olderadults is as important as who does it and how it’s supported.
I walked away from the Senior Living 100 Leadership Conference having talked with providers and listened to sessions that all dealt, in some form, the higher acuity nature of today's operating environment. That's why I believe this will continue to be a core issue that shapes the industry going forward.

I am passionate about addressing the challenges faced by ethnic minorities in accessing primary care and promoting education for current students and nurses on cultural competency.
Leadership in nursing is crucial for delivering quality patient care, fostering teamwork, and supporting the well-being of each team member. No matter your position, you are a leader, as leadership comes from how you influence and support others, not just from your title.
During my degree, we studied leadership thanks to the amazing Mel Maddison. Since then, I’ve been keen to explore my own leadership style and how I can use it to collaborate with and motivate others. I would describe my leadership style as a blend of compassionate, servant, transformational, and democratic leadership. These approaches are valuable because they foster empathy, prioritise the well-being of others, inspire positive change, and encourage teamwork by involving everyone in decision-making. However, I also recognise that, as a leader, there will be times when I must make decisions independently, especially for the safety of patients and colleagues, where an autocratic style might be necessary.
What’s your leadership style, and why?

While there is quite a bit of research on developing a leadership mindset for more senior nurses, there aren’t many pieces of research that highlight the importance of a leadership mindset at the bedside or how you can do it. Nurse Leader published an article where you can see how the Lead for Care Program was deployed for deep impact at the bedside and the ripple effect when organizations anchor mentorship connections to build a leadership mindset! I'm finishing the week a mix of happy, energised, fulfilled and quite tired!
The last few weeks have been such a whirlwind of research, design and preparation with new programmes starting, others in development and familiar one's returning.
This week, two programmes have started and returned.
🌟Tuesday was the return of a 2 day leadership programme for Nurse Sisters, Charge Nurses and Clinical Nurse Specialists. It's into it's 4th year now and it's always an absolute joy - with insightful and honest conversation, a real desire to think and grow and lots of lightbulb moments - this week was no exception.
🌟Yesterday was Day 1 of a 6 month leadership programme for a Hospice I'm working with. It's been a year in the planning and it was everything I'd hoped it would be. I can't wait to see what this extraordinary group achieve together over the coming months.
🌟Next week I've got a new coaching programmes starting for a fabulous building society I work with as well as a couple of new power hours, before the return on Thursday of the clinical leaders programme.
Today's my final prep day, so having a much needed cuppa and a biscuit to get my brain in gear for that 😊 There will also be a nap over the weekend 😂
What's stood out for you this week?
