She joined GM in 2016 and leads research projects to develop manufacturing inspection systems. Nondestructive evaluation (NDE) for automotive manufacturing is essential for first-time quality. This is especially true in today’s low volume, customized, fast-learning environment. The most suitable place for many NDE techniques is within the manufacturing process itself, when the components are being built. Implementing inline manufacturing inspection solutions enables reduction in scrap by allowing for real-time feedback and provides an opportunity to correct issues.

The choice of component or technology suppliers is extremely important in the automotive industry. The entire production process – from the first concepts all the way to the final sale to the customer – consists of many interrelated stages. If one of them performs inadequately, it can affect the overall outcome .

I'll never forget my first time in China, investigating a complex machine for a customer. My mission was clear: validate that the design met the applicable directives, standards, and customer requirements while ensuring the machine matched its technical descriptions. Typical cup-of-tea with CE! For two intense days, I reviewed every detail on the machine, analyzing schematics, testing functionality, and cross-checking documentation. On the third day, I presented my findings to the manufacturer’s team on the shop floor. As I concluded, highlighting several critical gaps, the lead automation engineer suddenly shouted, “This is CE-armageddon!” His outburst was a moment of raw honesty that captured the challenges of achieving compliance in global manufacturing. It was clear that bridging the gap between ambition and execution would require not just technical fixes, but a shift in their entire process. Either way, as a representative of the customer I chase the improvements until they are assessed, done and documented, armageddon or not! Compliant means safe, it's that easy. Moments like this remind me why I love what I do: investigating in high details, uncovering hidden potential issues, having tough discussions and helping turn challenges into solutions.
