Is Gigacasting the Future of Automotive Manufacturing or Just a Buzzword? In first half of this year, Tesla rolled back its plan to invest in #gigacasting, citing huge upfront investment which they are in no position to make considering the falling profit margins and softening demand of EVs. From a technology standpoint, gigacasting certainly helps in faster manufacturing and light-weighting vehicles. However, from a consumer perspective, it might initially add to costs due to the high capital investment required by manufacturers. Another important perspective is vehicle design. Gigacasting might lower the flexibility of designs, geometries, and features in vehicles because it involves a single mono-casting. This might be a good investment for the mass market. However, if manufacturers can work with traditional assembly lines, why invest so much in a technology for which they are not yet sure whether they will be able to break even? For new modes of transport, such as Air Mobility, this still requires significant manufacturing infrastructure, which could be completely built on the concept of gigacasting. #Stellarix #StellarixConsultancyServices #gigacasting #future #airmobility #manufacturing #automotivemanufacturing

Agree :) Gigacasting might be the future, but traditional methods still have their place. It’s all about finding the right balance.
