You might remember my earlier post about Hidden Champions. I'm excited to share that Mcule is one of the companies that have been recognized in this year's research! At the Strategic and International Management Research Centre of Corvinus University of Budapest the team of Péter Koncz, Dániel Kostyal, Levente Mikes, and myself, had the honor of leading this study for the third time, following our previous efforts in 2011 and 2018. The research unveiled several new Hidden Champions in Hungary, which will be highlighted in the Hungarian chapter of an upcoming publication. This year, Mcule has earned recognition as one of Hungary's new Hidden Champions. Founded by researchers, Mcule is an innovative drug-discovery platform, driving the sale of compounds to biotech companies and positioning itself as a global industry leader. A key factor in Mcule's success is their exceptional team, where members naturally go above and beyond for each other and the company. Their impressive growth has garnered international attention, with The Financial Times listing Mcule among the 1000 fastest-growing European companies in 2021, 2022, 2023, and 2024. We extend our heartfelt thanks to Robert Kiss, founder and CEO of the company, and Greg Prikler, Director of Business Development, for their participation in this year’s research. We also appreciate the efforts of Aigerim K., Teja Dušak, Denis Berberovic, and Danica Purg from the CEEMAN Network and IEDC - Bled School of Management in driving and coordinating the research process. We look forward to the publication of the new book. #HiddenChampions, #Corvinus, #StrategicandInternationalManagement, #Strategy #Mcule #Research #Managementresearch #HungarianHiddenChampions, #IEDC, #CEEMAN

And that's a wrap! Thank you to everyone who attended our masterclass: 'Discovering your Innovation's Commercialisation Potential'! Massive thank you to our impressive panel: Dr Melissa Mail (Children's Medical Research Institute), Philip Crealy (Equinox Medical and Centralyze), Jess Smith (Brandon Capital) and Gordon Malouf (Cicada Innovations) for providing all-rounded perspectives from the research stage. Key takeaways from what our cohort learned: - Identifying commercial potential at a research stage – talk to your tech transfer unit - Understanding the value of the market, IP, customer and external factors - Identifying and validating the unmet need is an absolute must – investors are hooked on the feasibility and the value of their return - Do your research, build your connections, and start the right conversations to get as “clear” a strategy as you can through your “crystal ball”, but remember, no one-size-fits-all - Ready to model and be open-minded about different commercialisation pathways. - Reach out to the available resources who can help you make those connections with partners and collaborators, like Cicada Innovations! - Refine your pitch – communication is key! Hear what our cohort has to say below 👇 If you missed out on the masterclass, head here to attend our next one: https://lnkd.in/giUkDKfg #healthtech #medicalresearch #commercialisation #entrepreneur #clinicaltranslation #lifesciences #clinicaltrials #healthstartups

Ekaterina Zaharieva, European Commissioner for Startups, Research, and Innovation, opened the EFPIA conference with an inspiring video message. "Life sciences represent an inestimable wealth for Europe," she emphasized, highlighting Europe’s strong foundation in research and innovation that extends far beyond the health sector. But with such great capacity, what holds us back from fully unlocking such research and innovation? Is there anything we could do differently to facilitate research, foster innovation and transform more rapidly promising life sciences breakthroughs into new products that the society needs and is willing to embrace? To enhance Europe’s competitiveness and wellbeing, the new Commission will be working on a Life Sciences Strategy and a European Innovation Act, which will further support this vision by simplifying our regulatory framework and improving capital access for innovative companies. We’re looking forward to working together with Commissioner Zaharieva to bring this vision to life and make Europe a global leader in life sciences.

In recent years, OpenAI has collaborated with ETH Zurich on scientific projects - a partnership that likely played a role in the decision to establish a new lab in Zurich. From a broader perspective, this move illustrates the strength of the Swiss scientific community and its appeal to global innovation leaders. It also illustrates why it is so important for Switzerland to remain a global hub for cutting-edge research in order to be attractive to the global elite in new technologies. The future of innovation begins with basic research!
