5 key takeaways from Tim Miles’ sync keynote at FastForward Events’ music conference yesterday: 👉 Sync has no barrier to entry for artists. If you’ve got a great song, you’ve got great sync potential. 👉 ‘Success has many parents’ - the record-breaking ‘Running Up That Hill’ sync in Strangers Things 4 was a team effort. Impactful sync is the result of getting many ducks in a row. 👉 ‘The car that didn’t want to be sold’ - no matter how much a brand wants to use a song, rightsholders have the final say. You need to be thick-skinned to negotiate between both parties. 👉 Blanket licensing provides an all-you-can-eat buffet for broadcasters. If marketing teams can keep ahead of the curve, they can capitalise on a song’s attention with remix releases. 👉 There’s a lot of untapped potential for music in the gaming market and adaptive audio.
