RIPPLE ANNOUNCES PLANS TO LAUNCH ITS OWN USD STABLECOIN: WHAT WE KNOW “This move is also monumental for the XRP Ledger community, driving more use cases, liquidity and opportunities for developers and users.” - The news has just broken that Ripple, of $XRP-fame, will launch its own stablecoin pegged-to and backed-by the US Dollar. - Ripple will publish monthly reserve attestations and said reserves will be audited by a third party accounting firm. - Technically speaking, the stablecoin will be backed by “US dollar deposits, short-term US Treasurys and other cash equivalents”, according to Blockworks. - According to CEO Brad Garlinghouse, Ripple’s foray into the stablecoin sector is a “natural step for Ripple”. “Institutions entering this space are finding success by partnering with compliant, crypto-native players and Ripple’s track record and resiliency speaks for itself as we launch new products and acquire companies through multiple market cycles” - The stablecoin will first be available on $XRP and $ETH but there exist plans to expand to other L1s/L2s in the future.
