Question: Which is the best service, Army, Marine Corps, Navy, Air Force, Space Force, Coast Guard, National Guard, or Reserve? The answer, they are all winners for differs reasons.   The Army: There is no better service than the Army when it come to planning and integrating  battle systems. The Army leadership is the superb service that ensures intelligence and combat service support is nested and integrated into plans. The opportunities in the Army are endless. The Army wins wars. The Marine Corps: The Corps is a task organized mission focus force with intense war fight ethos. A forward deployed force that is often the first committed, as an entry force to win battles and vital to the Geographic Combatant Commanders. The Navy is an omni presence force, ensures free and open lines of trade throughout the world (Brentenwoods Agreement) and freedom of navigation world-wide. Surface Warfare, Submarines, Aviation, SEALS, the Navy has it all. The Air Force is the premier Air Force in the world. Since their establishment, US forces have never been attacked on the ground. A stealthily, far reaching fighter/bomber strike force with layers or ISR, tanker and logistical support, no force can compete with the U.S. Air Force, period! The Space Force is the newest service and provided superb Communication, Navigation, Weather, Intelligence, Surveillance, Warning and Counter Space capability to terrestrial force world-wide. A true force multiplier in the cyber age of Information Operations. Coast Guard is the service that do not practice daily but rather executes every mission on daily basis. A quiet group of professional law enforcement mariners that keep U.S. interest secure and safe across the globe. National Guard/Reserve Force is the trump-card that ensures our military has the depth to execute any assigned mission. Often when the force list requirement calls for a high-demand , low-desired capability the Guard and Reserve are the force of choice. As Creighton Abrams said in the 60’s “the military is apolitical while the Guard and Reserve is very political as they come from the masses of the civilian community and their assignment becomes a political decision.” In the end the best service depends on what the nation’s goals are and which CONPLAN/OPLAN needs execution.  All forces have their strengths and weakens and our Geographic Combatant Commanders and Joint Staff can tailor the force to the mission requirements. The United States possesses a highly professionally, integrated, and layered military capability.

The National Guard and United States Army Reserve need increased support to modernize their equipment and manning for future conflict, the components’ top leaders testified June 18 on Capitol Hill. “Unpredictable and inconsistent funding … reduce [the National Guard’s] buying power and negatively impact our strategic readiness and modernization,” Gen. Daniel Hokanson, chief of the National Guard Bureau, testified before the Senate Appropriations defense subcommittee. “If we fail to modernize our equipment and force design adequately, we increase the risk of sending America’s sons and daughters into large-scale combat operations with equipment and formations that may not be fully interoperable with the active-duty forces we serve alongside.” As the Army builds toward the force of 2030, it remains focused on modernization and has requested $38.5 billion in fiscal 2025 for research and development and to modernize its aircraft, missiles, weapons, and tracked combat vehicles and ammunition, according to an Army budget 📰 From our ROA SmartBrief. 📖 https://bit.ly/4cD2QEc #NationalGuard #ArmyReserve #CapitolHill #Army

American Tactical Advancement in World War I The New Lessons of Combined Arms and Open Warfare The U.S. Army evolved into a truly modern fighting force during World War I. When the U.S. entered the war in 1917, the infantry was its primary offensive arm. Training focused mainly on target practice, bayonet charges and marching drills. Antiquated tactics emphasized massive attack waves relying on ferocity to achieve battlefield objectives. Heavy casualties resulted when inexperienced American troops encountered entrenched German veterans trained in the use of modern artillery and machine guns. By war’s end the American Expeditionary Force had progressed along a bloody learning curve, developing sophisticated techniques—small flexible formations, fire-and-maneuver and infiltration—for breaking the trench warfare stalemate. Eventually, the AEF integrated new weapons like poison gas, tanks and aircraft into its offensive tactics and pioneered the mechanized combined arms warfare still practiced by the U.S. Army. If you look closely, this picture represents a marriage of passive air defense & passive air surveillance concepts during a force on force application. I got a chance to get a first hand look at the capability Andruil's Lattice & WISP systems can provide to the Marine Corps stand-in force. Looking forward to seeing more of this kind of technology make it into the hands of our C2 warfighters.

I'm not convinced by any of this. Putting to one side the usual issues of compromised SA, operations in different combat environments and lighting conditions, weapons compatibility (that video does little to support that), etc., etc., look at the additional stuff the guys have got to wear! And that light leakage in the final few seconds ... 🙄! DARPA's recent concerns with "cognitive attacks" for military wearable users are also important. It's no good saying this is equivalent to where we were with iPhone 1 or 2. XR has been around for much longer and we've had ample chance to be much further along than we actually are. This whole thing needs to be scrapped and re-thought out, putting a proper human-centred design process in place from Day #1.

This Saturday May 18th marks the 74th anniversary of the inception of Armed Forces Day. The first Armed Forces Day, Saturday, May 20, 1950, marked the first combined demonstration by America's defense team of its progress, under the National Security Act, towards the goal of readiness for any eventuality.
