This week, our India team came together to celebrate two special occasions: India’s 78th Independence Day and our Ethnic Wear Day. In observance of India’s Independence Day, we had the honor of making a meaningful contribution to our Bangalore community. Altogether, our India team donated 110 school bags to underprivileged students at Government Higher Primary School in Srinivasa Colony, Bangalore. We happily report that there were lots of smiling children when they received their bags! Our team also celebrated India’s Independence Day in style on August 14 with an Ethnic Wear Day. The theme was inspired by the vibrant colors of India’s National Flag. It was a great opportunity to embrace the spirit of the day and celebrate our diverse cultures! Check out some pictures of the events and a big thank you to our HR team and all the DH employees who helped make these celebrations a success! #GlobalTeam #DHIndia #IndiaIndependenceDay

The philanthropic landscape is set for a significant shift by 2040, with the baton passing to a US-born cohort of givers. This generation, which will possess substantial wealth earlier in their lives, shows a diverse range of connections to their Indian heritage. Like other diaspora communities, a decline in giving to their ancestral homeland is anticipated due to a combination of factors: the perception of India's economic development, a diminishing personal connection to India, a belief in greater philanthropic needs in other geographies, and concerns about political policies. This generational shift poses both challenges and opportunities for philanthropy, as the priorities and connections of this younger generation will shape the future of giving. We welcome you to IRIS, which is dedicated to Advancing societal understanding through rigorous social research and empathetic engagement with the community. Our objective is to unveil Social Benefit for all by ensuring that citizens of India have the support they need to progress in their lives. We empower every citizen with practical and useful information and guide them in their journey to uplift themselves and their families. During a recent survey, our research head, Aiman Siddique, interviewed a woman named Poonam Kanojia, who resides in Lucknow. Poonam does not possess a caste certificate and, upon further discussion, it was revealed that she is also unaware of the scholarships available for her children's education and the extent of benefits she can receive. This highlights the existence of numerous citizens who lack awareness regarding Indian schemes and the advantages associated with specific certificates or documents. By combining rigorous research methodologies with heartfelt community engagement, we strive to produce findings that inform and inspire action. Together, we can address societal challenges and create a brighter future for all. #iris #socialwelfare #governmentschemes #nonprofit #awareness

"It is incredibly hard to actually move the levers on systems change, the very fact that philanthropy is putting in serious risk capital and creating a shared vocabulary around it is both encouraging and exciting," writes Rohini Nilekani, Chairperson of Rohini Nilekani Philanthropies. At The Convergence Foundation, we believe systems change is essential for addressing India's growth and development challenges. We recently launched a report that profiles 20 leading System Support Organisations (SSOs) in India that have achieved large-scale impact through systems change. "It is up to the wealthy to show the country why wealth creation has been a net positive in India. No society or country will tolerate for too long the continued accumulation of wealth in a few hands, unless that private wealth works and is seen to work for the public good." Rohini Nilekani (Chairperson, RNP), while urging the country’s wealthy to step up, shares how Indian givers are tilting towards a more collaborative model of #philanthropy. "The India Climate Collaborative, co-founded by several donors including myself, and incubated by the Tata Trusts, is moving strategically to increase Indian investments in the climate sector, in both mitigation and adaptation. It convenes samaaj, sarkaar and bazaar to deepen research, build capacity and create investable opportunities. Overall, India’s fund flows towards climate action have grown 2.3 times during 2017-23. Best of all, new funders like Mirik Gogri are entering the space with bold new ideas." writes Rohini Nilekani, Chairperson of Rohini Nilekani Philanthropies. We sent my 20 yr old nephew Christian James to our ancestral land in #Markadhana India. This was his 1st trip to India actually 1st time out of the country besides Mexico. He was escorted by his #Grandfather and #Grandmother my #Dad Ranveer James and #Mother Sunita James. My first trip to #India was 1986 I was 6 years old. Some of those images remain with me to this day, and propel me to live a life of purpose. I wanted my nephew to experience the same "Helping other people can be a cure, not just for those that are in need but for your soul as well." Many who know me, know about the #JamesProject established in 2010. This was a clean water project to help the indigenous people of Markadhana #India. Markadhana is a small village located in the state of Madhya Pradesh, India. The Markadhana village has a population of 624 who were once nomadic people. There is no electricity in the village (to give you perspective) The James Project supported by the #OmSurgicalFoundation has been focused on providing clean water and sustainability to the area of Markadhana for over a decade. Through self funding we have created a total of 3 stop dams in the area that are holding water and able to supply clean water for the village. It is great to receive pictures like this from my nephew, and to know that the population is growing. #nonprofitwork #nonprofit #sustainablity #corporatesocialresponsibility #payitforward #OmSurgicalFoundation Om Surgical Solutions LLC
